Bethesda’s Fallout has been in the spotlight all over again ever since the release of the franchise’s live-action adaptation, with the release of a 5th canon release in its video game series remaining imminent at this point. However, Todd Howard, the renowned director of the series has refused to take a suggestion that fans have been trying to deliver the studio ever since it all began.

It has been recommended by the players that the next game, i.e. Fallout 5 should take place somewhere else rather than America as while it is a great experience for the first 4 games, it is about time the studio introduces new premises for the next release.

Todd Howard Refuses To Take Fallout 5 Somewhere Else

Despite the need for a change of place being evident, it seems Todd Howard might not just be convinced yet to take Fallout out of America. In a recent interview via Kinda Funny Games, the director revealed how he is gonna stick to the original setting, stating-

“My view is part of the Fallout schtick is on the Americana naivete and part of that, And so, for us right now, it’s OK to acknowledge some of those other areas. But our plan is to predominantly keep it in the U.S. I also like in any sort of world, I don’t feel the need to answer. It’s OK to leave mystery or questions: what is happening here? What is happening here? I think those are good things. In Elder Scrolls everybody wants to go to these other, mysterious lands. The worst thing you could do to mysterious lands is remove the mysteriousness. Keep mysterious lands mysterious!”

Howard ended up revealing how he plans to keep the premises of the game confined to America. However, he also acknowledged how there are other potential areas too, but what’s happening in these particular places is best left as a mystery. Quoting an example from Elder Scrolls, the director mentions how removing the mysterious factor from the mysterious land would be the worst thing to do, and the same should apply to Fallout too.

In retrospect, many nations in the world would be suitable as a setting for a Fallout game. While the community has been already working on a fan-made mod for Fallout 4, titled Fallout: London, many expect Bethesda to make an official sequel of their own, which might be a bit far-fetched considering how the studio has their hands full right now.

Fallout 5 – Why Is Bethesda Taking A Long Time?

As much as fans would love to just get their hands on the much-awaited sequel as soon as possible, it seems Bethesda has too much going on right now. From the long ongoing development of Elder Scrolls VI to preparing for Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC, the studio has been struggling to keep up with projects, especially the ones that are much requested by the fans.

Furthermore, users on social media platforms have started stating how Starfield’s $200 million budget could have been better used for developing Fallout 5 instead. Many gamers had held high expectations of Bethesda’s space-exploring title, which were not met when it was finally released, prompting them to make such a statement about what the studio could have potentially done better.
