Emma Heming Willis Calls Bruce Willis’ Tragic Diagnosis a Family Disease

Actor Bruce Willis is currently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and battling the disease which has limited his ability to communicate and understand language and speech. His wife Emma Heming Willis recently appeared on the Today show to give an update on Willis’s present condition, expressing how hard it has been for the family the past few months. She said,

“Dementia is hard. It’s hard on the person diagnosed, it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls. When they say this is a family disease, it really is.”

When asked if Willis himself is aware of his condition, she gave a heartbreaking reply saying, “It’s hard to know”. She also expressed how she considers herself a ‘care partner;’ and not a caretaker in her process of dealing with the illness by making sure that her husband gets the best treatment and being there for him by his side always.

Emma Heming Willis further talked about Bruce Willis’ deterioration due to his illness which progressed into frontotemporal dementia. She spoke to the Today Show that the illness proved to be both a blessing and a curse for the family, She explained this statement by saying,

“I think it was a blessing and a curse, you know. To sort of finally understand what was happening so that I could be into the acceptance of what is. It doesn’t make it any less painful, but just being in the acceptance and just being in the know of what is happening to Bruce just makes it a little bit easier.”

Willis’ wife can be seen holding back tears as she says these words. One can understand the pressure and the toll that has taken over the family since his diagnosis.
