Famed for his portrayal of FBI agent Fox Mulder, David Duchovny has branched off into quite a few successful stints as an actor, writer, musician, and producer. In his latest tryst with fate, the X-Files actor kick-started his podcast Fail Better. In a reflection of his trials and missteps, his latest venture goes as far as to invite esteemed guests and talk about failures. The unconventional approach, however, has a deeper meaning, especially to him, on a personal basis.

To answer the burning question as to why he switched his tracks from being a popular actor to now hosting a talk show of sorts, the 63-year-old opened up on the same. Additionally, he also dished out why he would invite some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and have them walk him through their defeats and constraints, in front of a global audience.

Premiering on May 7, 2024, the Fail Better podcast may be in its nascency. However, in that small amount of time, it has hosted the likes of Ben Stiller and Bette Milder. The conversations on these appearances center on having these eminent guests go vocal about their failures, the lessons they learned from them, and the advice they would have to be a better self.
In talks with People magazine, the Californication once again reiterated the same with:
It’s not about reveling in the shame of it all. It’s about the true hurt of it and the response after the hurt. How do you go ahead in your life stronger and not debilitated by the wound of a big failure?
In essence, David Duchovny serves as a medium of personal growth and success by introspecting failure through his weekly series. Standout episodes so far have featured Sarah Silverman sharing her missteps in previous episodes only to gain an experience from them, understand what sticks with the audience, and make an even bigger comeback. Thereafter, Midler opened up about dealing with difficult people while Stiller shared his thoughts on projects like the Zoolander 2, which failed to take off.

Originally airing for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, The X-Files’ popularity saw David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully take on unsolved cases and investigate paranormal phenomena. Rather, its popularity was such that it again received two offshoot spin-off seasons in 2016 and 2018. Interestingly, these two leads always had a chemistry designed for success, barring a few instances.
In the same talks, Duchovny stated that he had “an immediate connection” with Anderson right from the moment of their auditions. Working together for several consecutive years only deepened that bond. The result showed complete success as The X-Files acquired a cumulative score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and sealed itself as one of the best horror-thriller drama series and an indisputable front-runner in the supernatural fiction genre.
