English actor Sophie Turner understood the power of social media and it once helped the actor secure a movie role. Turner’s fandom and popularity earned her a massive social media following on several platforms and it once gave her a role despite another actor’s remarkable performance.
“A lot of what I have achieved is about timing and luck, but it is also, and I hate to say it, about a big social media following. I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job. It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now,” Turner once said (via NME)
However, social media is not always favorable, not even Turner. “It was so gradual that I still treated my life and my social media like I wasn’t in the public eye,” the 27-year-old said. “I was a 15-year-old girl writing rash political stuff that would get a negative reaction and my team would tell me to take it down,” the Dark Phoenix star continued. “Now I am learning to keep my mouth shut,” she added. Evidently, the actor has very good acting skills but it appears that she’d remember the actor who was deprived of the deserved role for Turner’s popularity.
Sophie Turner Revealed Her Passion for Acting
If not acting, nothing else. Turner has always wanted to be an actor. She honed her skills acting in theaters for quite a long time and got her first breakthrough in her very debut in the world of cinema. “I wanted to pursue acting from a very young age and I have always been interested in it,” Turner told Fansided.
“I began acting when I joined my local theatre group (Playbox Theatre) when I was three and have been passionate about it ever since. I always used to make up shows with my friends, mainly with my close friend Ellie Johnson but she soon got tired of it. I would always be the most crazy, the most loud out of all my friends and I used to channel that energy into dressing up and putting on shows. It’s been a huge part of my life and without acting I would be lost.”
The actor has been heavily influenced by Hollywood’s three topmost stars— Natalie Portman, Dakota Fanning, and Cameron Diaz. “Natalie Portman, because of the variation between all of the characters she has played and how dedicated she is to a role,” she told the outlet. Fanning’s acting debut at the age of 5 and still has a thriving career and Diaz’s evolution as an actor coming straight from the modeling world has inspired Turner the most.
