James Gunn Cleared Confusion About DC Cannon

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and Peter Safran are all set to launch the new DC Universe that would redesign the entire movies and shows (including animation) under the banner of the studio. The new DCU, as they call it, has already discarded several frontline actors playing the leading superheroes in the DCEU which includes Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. But speaking of the official launch of the DCU, Gunn said that the DC series Creature Commandos will mark the beginning of the era with Superman: Legacy being the first superhero feature set in the new universe.

“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet. And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC [Creature Commandos] and Legacy,” via Home of DCU.

It is evident that fans’ thirst for knowledge of the new DCU canon is legit as Gunn has mostly kept all in suspense until now. Now they have the basic idea of the new universe, where it sets and eventually, it’ll confirm where it leads.

James Gunn confirmed Xolo Maridueña, Viola Davis and John Cena will continue their roles in the new DCU

Gunn’s casting for the new DCU and discontinuing the prime superheroes played by prominent A-listers has been in the news and a well-discussed topic on the internet. Clearly, it has provided a hint of the new DCU. Of course, many fans are upset with the end of SnyderVerse but Gunn’s idea of the DC revamp has long been a rescue plan for the studio. Of course, the majority of the DCEU actors were discarded but fans will get to see at least some known faces from DCEU in the new DCU. Speaking of the actors to continue their roles in the new DC Universe, Gunn exclusively revealed their names on Threads.

“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker,” Gunn said.

It is almost certain that Gunn’s DCU will not follow anything that the previous chapter had to offer. Obviously, Xolo Maridueña’s character Blue Beetle is new to the screen and it would be a fine addition to his vision. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and John Cena as Peacemaker being on the cards also created hype among fans as these characters might rule the DCU series in Gunn’s world.
