Samuel L. Jackson may be just another actor in Hollywood’s league of iconic actors, but his comedian skills are equally refined despite him not being an officially accredited comedian. A mastermind who never ceases to amuse his audiences, there must have been hardly any instances where the renowned star had appeared onscreen and not made the viewers laugh.
This is the exact reason why, when he was reminded that Harrison Ford had, once again, beaten him for the iconic title of being recognized as the highest-grossing actor, Samuel L. Jackson had the most indifferent reaction, which quite literally had the most hilarious reaction on every single person present in the room.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Reaction to Losing His Iconic Title to Harrison Ford
Samuel L. Jackson has taken on some of the most exceptional acting gigs, with his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe standing out the most of all. And as much as he is loved in the role, he gets paid equally wealthily for it as well.
Because of this and all the other exceptional roles in Hollywood blockbusters he took on, The Avengers star was officially crowned the title of the highest-grossing actor of all time by the Guinness World Records in 2011 for having made $7.4 billion from all his projects (via THR).
However, soon after that in 2016, this crown was stolen from him by none other than yet another Hollywood actor, Harrison Ford. And while this wound must have still hurt, Jackson still had people more or less rubbing it in.
And by people, we specifically mean one of our very own favorite talk show hosts, Graham Norton.
When the Pulp Fiction star appeared on The Graham Norton Show back in 2016, Norton mentioned this very thing in front of him. He said, “Samuel, apparently you have recently lost your title as the highest-grossing actor of all time.” To this, Jackson had the most indifferent reaction.
With a ‘meh’ face, he first said “Yeah,” which earned him laughter from all the people around him, before continuing to say in an even more sarcastic and uncaring manner as his usual legendary self:
“I’ve been displaced. [By] Harrison Ford. Again. I displaced him, he displaced me, but hey, it’s only 70 mil[lion dollars]! [Snorts] I got it covered in July. He’s lucky I’m not in Captain America 3 now.”
For the record, in 2016, while Samuel L. Jackson went down to $4.63 billion in aggregate of all the money his movies grossed, Harrison Ford snatched the title from him once again to reclaim the top position with $70 million more at a stunning $4.7 billion (as per The Guardian).
Who Holds the Title Now Between the Two?
While Samuel L. Jackson‘s reaction to losing the title of the highest-grossing actor of all time would’ve seemed quite hilarious and unbelievable to fans before, the truth is that the Django Unchained star was actually speaking the truth.
As it turns out, overpowering Harrison Ford in the league of the highest-grossing actors of all time was quite an easy job for the Nick Fury portrayer, for starring in more than just a bunch of Marvel projects among his other gigs launched him back to the top of the list.
After almost 8 years since Ford took over the top in 2016 with $4.7 billion, Samuel L. Jackson has reclaimed the position once again in the Domestic field with a whopping aggregate of $5.72 billion as of August 2023 (as per IGN) — a lot more than just $70 million, for sure!
In the meanwhile, Harrison Ford ranks at the 10th position on the list as of 2023, with his accumulated grossing of all his movies being approximately $4.23 billion, as per the stats published by Statista.
Well, if Harrison Ford wants that position back, perhaps what he needs is an attitude like Samuel L. Jackson!
