James Gunn Says Creature Commandos Will Not be Delayed

The writers’ and actors’ strike has been going on for months and has started showing its impact on several Hollywood projects. Production of many movies and TV shows has been put on hold as SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA in the strikes and put their demands in front of the top Hollywood studios.

Marvel also reshuffled the release schedule of its upcoming TV shows last week as reports revealed that the strike has caused a halt in many of its shows. It has concerned the DC fans, who have been looking forward to the upcoming projects under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership.

Fans discussed the same about the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos, which is set to star Frank Grillo and David Harbour. However, according to the show’s creator, “It’s animated, so it’s separate from the strike.” The filmmaker also shared that they are working on it, and it would be far from what people are expecting it to be.

“We’re working on it. I love it. I think it’s going to be so different than what people expect,” he said. Set to release under the first chapter of DCU, Gods & Monsters, fans can expect the animated series to be on schedule, however, the same cannot be said about the other projects as well.

DC Projects Impacted by the WGA & SAG-AFTRA Strikes

While James Gunn’s Creature Commandos will not get impacted by the ongoing WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes, other upcoming projects under DC Studios have suffered its consequences. The studio has been busy with several upcoming projects under the new DCU and DC Elseworlds and has already seen several production halts.

The Penguin, The Batman spin-off starring Colin Farrell, was forced to shut down production in mid-May and has reportedly been waiting for the situation to be resolved. Gunn has suggested that Viola Davis’ The Suicide Squad spin-off, Waller, is also expected to be delayed as a result of the strike.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II was also set to star production later this year. However, amid the ongoing strike, its production will reportedly start next year in 2024. Reports also suggested that Warner Bros. briefly suggested delaying Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle’s release to next year before its release. However, with no end in sight for both strikes, they decided against it.

Creature Commandos is expected to be released in 2024.
