Sweeney played Julia Carpenter in the superhero movie alongside Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Johnson, who played the lead role of Cassandra Webb. It is part of the expansive Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Sydney Sweeney Is Unbothered By Madame Web’s Box-Office Failure

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, actress Sydney Sweeney got candid about her involvement in SJ Clarkson’s Madame Web. When asked how she truly felt about the movie’s disappointing result, she stated:

I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.”

This somehow contradicts her earlier statement about being a huge fan of the franchise. In her interview with Variety, the actress revealed she had been collecting comic books to prepare for her role. Additionally, she professed her love for Marvel films since she was younger.

I’ve been ordering a bunch of comic books. There’s a lot to learn. I’ve always been a really big fan of all of the Marvel and Sony Universe movies. I’ve grown up watching them all and I’ve been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing.”

Sweeney’s enthusiasm to join the project stemmed from a confusion the actress has made in the past. In her earlier interviews, she recalled feeling excited about the franchise, believing she was signing up for Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Regardless, the actress’ statement about the bombing of her superhero film only proves that she was only invested in it at the beginning. Meanwhile, fans commended her honesty and how she handled the failure of her project.

The film grossed over $96 million against a production budget of 80 million, which spelled a major loss for Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Marvel Studios. The 26-year-old star probably does not dwell on this since her romantic comedy film with Glen Powell did a fantastic performance at the box office.

How Sydney Sweeney Approaches Her Movie Characters

As she easily moved on from her comic book role, the actress recalled via TMRW Magazine how a mentor helped her draw the line between herself and the character she plays. This way, she won’t become too affected in the long run.

When I was younger, I had this mentor who told me never to use personal memories or triggers to get myself in a place for character because you can blur the lines. So I took that advice.”

This is probably how she dealt with the disappointing reception of her comic book film, and sooner fans will see Sweeney bringing on a new character to the big screen, with no hint or trace of her failed past project.
