Despite her revelation causing a stir in the media, Jada Pinkett Smith did not shy away from promotional interviews for her book, Worthy. In a conversation with Parade, the Hawthorne actress was asked about their prenuptial agreement or lack thereof. She wrote about their decision not to have a prenup in her book, explaining that it created a special connection between the couple.

Jada Smith further shared with Parade that they didn’t need a prenuptial agreement because they were confident they could figure things out rather than resort to divorce. The Matrix Revolutions actress shared with Parade:

“I feel that was a very real moment for the two of us to look each other in the eyes, recognize that there would be tough times in this journey and to say to each other, ‘No matter what, we’re going to figure it out and that’s why we don’t need a prenup, because I’m making a promise that divorce won’t be necessary, that we will figure this out.’”

The Red Table Talk host also pointed out that they had this conversation not in the context of a beautiful wedding. Rather, they talked it through, while sitting on a log in Will Smith’s mother’s backyard. Jada Smith cited this promise as the reason the couple chose not to divorce, despite years of living apart.
