The DC Extended Universe did not go as planned. A decade and 15 movies later, Warner Bros. Studios decided that enough was enough, and pulled the plug on DC Comics’ answer to the phenomenon that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was. But they are not going to go out without a fight.
Things look certain to get interesting, as James Gunn spearheads efforts to rejuvenate DC’s live-action franchise. It is all set to begin with Superman: Legacy. And there is one question on everyone’s mind – who will be the people to carry the torch forward? And it seems like Gunn has revealed the name of another star – Milly Alcock.
James Gunn has a task at hand
Before his forays into the DCEU, James Gunn was the man behind Guardians of the Galaxy. An acrimonious turn of events would see the filmmaker land on the other side of the rivalry. Initially working on The Suicide Squad, little did he know that he would soon be taking the reins of the franchise in his hand.
Why so? How did the DCEU find itself in these dire straits? These are questions that need answers. The stories were there. The characters were loved. It was their execution that left the franchise in dismay. And that is what James Gunn is there for.
The DC Universe’s future is attracting a lot of attention
The Slither director has a tough task ahead of him. But he is well equipped to deal with that. He, along with co-CEO Peter Safran, has the mantle of ushering in the next era of brilliance to the live-action version of DC Comics. And they began their task with Superman: Legacy.
Starring David Corrensweet in the titular role in Superman: Legacy, the movie has begun to pique the interests of the masses. And it doesn’t seem likely that the buzz will be letting up anytime soon. This is evident from how much interest the rumors surrounding Supergirl’s casting have generated.
James Gunn can’t keep the secret of Milly Alcock’s casting
Fans are dying to learn who will be the next actor to essay the role of their favorite characters. And director fans are delighted to learn the release of another name – Milly Alcock as Supergirl. But it wouldn’t be like James Gunn to give it away. The 57-year-old joked when he was asked on a tweet the amount of screen time the actress would be getting. He replied,
“I never even said she was in the movie 🥴” (Twitter)
Some words.
Alcock was the first person he referred for the role to Peter Safran, courtesy of her performance in The House of Dragons. With this, she joins a list of the new guards that shall man the future of the DC Universe, including Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Anthony Carrigan, and other big names.
