The visionary director, James Gunn, known for his bold and innovative filmmaking style, had once aimed at destroying MCU’s family-friendly fare by adding a provocative scene in his Guardians of the Galaxy movie. While all films within the official MCU are rated PG-13, Gunn took a bold step to add an NSFW scene featuring Zoe Saldaña.

Apparently, James Gunn had originally filmed a risky scene for the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie that first appeared in the trailer. However, considering the provocative and controversial nature of the sequences, Disney had to intervene and replace this daring moment with a more unexpected and humorous element.
James Gunn Shot an NSFW Scene for Guardians of the Galaxy
In the initial stages of filming for Guardians of the Galaxy, director James Gunn had initially ventured on a journey of exploring unconventional and daring content. Therefore, willing to push boundaries and challenge norms, Gunn had reportedly shot a provocative scene featuring Zoe Saldaña, who plays Gamora. The scene in question featured in the trailer of the film, which showed a shirtless Saldaña.
According to the trailer available on Marvel’s YouTube channel, Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora is seen in all her green glory, with her shirt off and her back and part of her side exposed, while she gazes directly into the camera. This was indeed a wild ride that James Gunn had planned to possibly feature in the film. But not to forget, this scene single-handedly toyed with MCU’s strict PG-13 rating for all of its films.

Zoe Saldaña’s risky scene in the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was possibly part of a sequence where the characters changed into prison uniforms shortly after their arrest. However, considering that James Gunn’s bold creative choices turned out to be an audacious element in the family-friendly film, Disney had to intervene and eventually omit Gamora’s revealing scene.
Disney Replaced Zoe Saldaña’s Risque Scene with Rocket Raccoon
According to reports from SlashFilm, although James Gunn originally had the wild idea of featuring Zoe Saldaña’s NSFW scene in Guardians of the Galaxy, it was before Disney’s content squad tightened the reins. While the film was almost set to rock a much racier sequence, Disney intervened and replaced it with Peter Quill’s underwear and Rocket Raccoon’s bare all.
Despite pushing the limits of what is typically seen in mainstream superhero films, James Gunn eventually lost the provocative scene on the editing room floor. Although it appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, Disney decided to replace Zoe Saldaña’s daring moment with a more unexpected and humorous element – a naked Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper).

Gamora’s NSFW scene was altered to feature Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill aka Star Lord in his underwear and Rocket Raccoon fully unclothed. Disney’s strict content guidelines influenced the scene so much that Gamora was completely omitted from the prison uniform scene. The studios’ strategy of maintaining a PG-13 rating for their superhero films thus ensured that Guardians of the Galaxy was suitable for a younger audience.
Guardians of the Galaxy is available on Disney+.
