Ben Affleck Left The DC Universe Because They Needed A Younger Batman

Canonically Batman is a couple of years older than Superman. Seeing that Henry Cavill left the DCU because James Gunn’s vision for the franchise’s future required a younger version of Superman. This character would not be revisiting the origin story but just an earlier period of his life after wearing the cape. Due to this, it was only natural for the other characters to also be changed according to age.

To take this into consideration, it made sense for Batman to also be a few years younger than the version that Affleck plays. The reason that Ben Affleck had been hired as Bruce Wayne by Zack Snyder was because of the older and darker version that the director wanted him to play. However, that is not the Dark Knight that falls in the DCU’s future anymore. The famous character was brought to life by the actor in a much different way than fans were used to seeing and that seemed to fit well with them. While the earlier vision could have supported Affleck’s Batman, the new one cannot.
