Fans of the DC comic book are eagerly waiting for the release of James Gunn’s new project Blue Beetle. It is the first superhero introduced in the DC universe after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as the new co-CEOs of DC Studios. There is a lot of buzz going around the reception of the film by the audience and whether it can make people forget about Ezra Miller’s The Flash failure.
It appears the CEOs of DC have high hopes for Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle, owing to which they may place the character in further projects.
Blue Beetle actor confides about his conversation with James Gunn
Blue Beetle star cast graced the Fandango show before the release of their film Blue Beetle. In conversation about the future of the character, lead actor Maridueña gave some hints about future projects. The actor was asked in the interview about his future projects in the DC universe like the Peacemaker series and any related conversation with James Gunn.
Xolo Maridueña’s replied,
“I have had the pleasure of getting to speak with Mr. James Gunn and the whole DC fam and at the end of the day I think first we have to cross this first Hill right and introduce Jaime to the world. But I think it’s up to the audience to watch the movie, it’s up to everyone to show up for the movie. It’s so wonderful that we get to make movies like this and if it does well, we’ll get to open more doors for more Blue beetles. And not even just for the people up here but we’ve got a whole thing set up.”
“So many Beetles from so many Comics to choose from and really just a whole world where we’re super appreciative, that DC’s you know took the first swing at the live-action Latino superhero movie. So we’re ready to do it if the crowd wants it.”
Blue Beetle will also mark the superhero world debut of the Latino actor Xolo Maridueña.
Xolo Maridueña on playing the role of DC’s Blue Beetle
It is exciting for the 21-year-old actor to play the character of Jaime Reyes or the Blue Beetle in DC’s first adaptation of a comic book with a Latino superhero in the lead. The actor rose to fame with his role in the Netflix series Cobra Kai and has already become a social media sensation with his role in the upcoming film.
The actor shared with Variety,
“I can’t wait for people to see one of the — if not the first — Latino-led superhero movies ever.”
“Excited is not the first word that comes to my brain. It is nervous excitement, it’s antsiness. It’s the anticipation of knowing that you’re on the brink of something potentially big, but it still feels really intimate because you’re just with the cast and the crew.”
Blue Beetle will be released in theatres worldwide on 18 August.
