The film will mark the debut of a Latin-based superhero in DCU. The film might have the potential to revive DC, but this wasn’t the first idea of the filmmaker. During an interview with Den of Geek, Soto shared that when he got a call from Warner Bros to direct Blue Beetle, his brain was already planning something else. The director said,

“I wanted to pitch ideas, and one of them was the Bane origin story. I always thought that there was something interesting in exploring his reality and how a character like that comes to be.”

However, for this time, his ideas were put aside, as Warner Bros. already had some plans. WB wanted to bring a Latino superhero to the franchise. When Soto got a call from the studios, he was informed that they were expecting him to direct Blue Beetle. Soto revealed that the person who called from the studios said,

“There’s this character that we’ve been developing for a couple of years. The Blue Beetle, a Latino superhero.”

The superhero that was mentioned during the phone call is the renowned DC comic character Jaime Reyes, who later becomes Blue Beetle.

Since Soto’s idea of bringing Bane’s story to life couldn’t get implemented, it highly disappointed Guardian of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista.

Director Angel Manuel Soto’s vision of bringing Bane’s origin story to life was highly looked forward to by Dave Bautista. Bane is a DC comic book character. Bane is one of the most iconic villains of DC’s comic book characters. Looking at Bane’s strong personality, Bautista must have been a perfect fit to play the character.

Previously, the actor showed his interest in the role, and he even requested Warner Bros. to consider him for the role. It’s not just Bautista who thought himself to be a great fit for Bane, his fans also vouched for him. The popular DC villain has previously been portrayed by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

The Blue Beetle is scheduled to release on August 18, 2023.
