With one of the most decorated careers of all time WWE, John Cena is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers in wrestling history if not the the greatest. As one of the GOATs of WWE, many have looked up to Cena as he has tied up with Ric Flair with 16 World Championship victories. From introducing the spinning WWE Title to going against Edge in a TLC match in Unforgiven for the WWE title in 2006 to facing The Rock in WrestleMania; his career is full of iconic moments and matches that solidify his position as a future Hall of Famer.
Throughout his career Cena has displayed an unparalleled work ethic, however, no amount of professionalism can help The Leader of the Cenation to break one record held by another two greats of the sport, that is The Brahma Bull and The Deadman.
John Cena Can Never Break The WrestleMania Record Held By The Rock and The Undertaker
Making his official debut in WWE on 27 June 2002, by responding to the open challenge of Kurt Angle, John Cena was the face of ‘Ruthless Aggression. With 22 years in the industry, the wrestler has showcased an unwavering dedication and love for the sport and inspired many people by instilling the values of hustle, loyalty, and respect. Naturally, his relentless pursuit of excellence has earned him the respect of his peers.
Throughout his career, Cena has broken numerous WWE records, but there’s one WrestleMania record jointly shared by Dwayne Johnson and The Undertaker. Both wrestlers hold the record for headlining WrestleMania in four different decades. The Great One has main-evented WrestleMania for the years 1997-2004, 2012, 2013, 2016, and the upcoming WrestleMania XL (2024). On the other hand, The Deadman has headlined the biggest PPV for the years 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995-2019.
The news was shared by Wrestlelamia.com (@wrestlelamia) on X, and fans had positive responses sharing following the news.
Not only has he main evented them, but he’s challenged the face of every recent era and beat them: Steve Austin, Hogan, Cena, and now… Roman Reigns. That’s wild! 🤯

Meanwhile, Cena made his WrestleMania debut in 2004; and has headlined the PPV event from 2004-2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023. However, it looks like he can not break this record as he has plans for retirement which will most likely keep the record unbroken.
John Cena Plans To Retire From Wrestling
A charismatic performer, who can be an underdog or a villain, the Peacemaker actor has continued to evolve his character in WWE, which makes him a magnet to attract the audience. The larger-than-life personality is exceptional on the mic like Johnson and his in-ring ability matches The Undertaker which makes the fan cheer for the performer.
For 22 years, fans have been witnessing his pure brilliance in WWE, but it looks like the moment is coming to an end as he has discussed his plans to hang up his boots and it’s not far away. During an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cena confirmed that his retirement is around the corner as he is going to be 47 years old this year.
He said,
“That’s not a maybe. That time is gonna come and it’s gonna come soon. I made a promise to the consumer early on, to WWE fans, ’cause I know how tough it is to be a fan. You gotta come out of pocket — and WWE has a ton of content — it takes a lot to be a passionate fan and our fanbase is passionate and global. I never wanted to go out there just for the sake of going out there. And I’m gonna be 47 this year.”
The 16-time World Champion added,
“I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in and night out and I don’t ever wanna just go out there and do it to do it. I wanna have the passion — the same passion as the fanbase — and I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, ‘Hey, that’s gotta be done before 50.'”
The news of Cena being open to the option of retirement is heartbreaking for wrestling fans as many fans have grown up watching the wrestler and actor; his retirement will mark the end of our childhood.
