Since securing the WWE Universal title at Payback, 2020, against Braun Strawman and the late Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns has yet to lose his title and is currently standing at 1,294 days. And with WrestleMania 40 inching closer, which will see the WWE Superstar Star going against Cody Rhodes, many believe the champion will be finally pinned for his title on Night Two of WM.

However, WWE might book it otherwise in order to push the Hobbs & Shaw Star towards one huge record, held by WWWF legend Bruno Sammartino.

On January 20 this year, Roman Reigns surpassed the Italian Strongman’s 1,237-day reign as the champion, which Sammartino reached during his second run as the company’s champion. However, this is nowhere close to his unparalleled feat of 2,803 days, which is a testament to Sammartino’s longevity. But it’s important to keep in mind Reigns is the only superstar in the modern era, who has been closest to this gigantic record, as he currently stands in fourth place for helming the title for the most days.

And with the Big Dog being just months away from dethroning Hulk Hogan’s record, it might not be too far-fetched to assume WWE might shape the face of their company to achieve the unthinkable.

If that’s the case, it’s still a long way to go, as, before Sammartino, he would’ve to surpass the title reigns of Hulk Hogan and Bob Backlund, who stand at 1,474 Days and 2,135 days respectively. But it’s important to note that WWWF was a regional promotion in New York back in the 60s, which made it much easier to book one top guy as the champion for such a prolonged period. Realistically, the most plausible outcome seems Hogan’s reign, but only time will tell what the future holds for the face of the company.

WWE Legend Pitches Captivating Idea for Cody Rhodes’ Clash With the Bloodline

With Roman Reigns and The Rock set to face Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night One of WM 40, WWE legend Bully Ray pitched one possible angle that WWE can go for their match.

Cody Rhodes' match against Roman Reigns seems all the more likely

Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Ray highlighted Rhodes’ previous torn bicep, stressing that on Night One, The Rock and Reigns should attack Rhodes’ bicep before his clash on Night Two.

“Knowing the stipulation and the repercussions of Night 1 leading into Night 2, I want Roman and Rock to go over Night 1…Imagine if, on Night 1 in the tag match, they [Rock and Roman] targeted Cody’s torn bicep. It has been put back together, but an injury is never repaired 100%. Injuries have memory just like muscles have memory, and that injured muscle will remember that it was torn at one time…This story, other than one pretty major speed bump, has been told in a great way since day one,”

With fans enthralled for the rematch, it’ll be interesting to see if the American Nightmare finally gets to end his story or if Reigns will move one step closer to Sammartino’s record.
