John Cena Is Returning as the Peacemaker

The ‘old’ DCEU will come to an end with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December. And the brand-new DCU will start its journey soon after. Although the director James Gunn promised a completely new venture disregarding all the past developments in the universe, the fresh restart will consist of a few of the old DCEU actors. As James Gunn stated on Threads,

“And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”

And John Cena is one of them!

All the restless fans can finally rest now. While there were whispers and speculations about the actor’s comeback, fans weren’t sure how much the fresh narratives and the storyboard would align with the character. However, now that the news has been officially revealed, it’s undeniably a heartening revelation for all the Peacemaker fans out there. The second season of Peacemaker was already announced last year, and as Gunn confirmed will be coming to the audiences after the Superman: Legacy film, which is set for a 2025 release.

As James Gunn’s Threads statements read,

“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.”

The addition of Xolo Maridueña and Viola Davis to the roaster has the fan base seemingly quite excited, causing a rift in opinions. While Cena and Maridueña’s return had been somewhat anticipated by the audience, Davis’s reentry into the universe has left few of the fans with a sense of uncertainty leading them to debate whether she is the perfect fit to continue portraying Amanda Waller.

However, considering Davis’s immense talent, there’s an interesting possibility that, if handled correctly, Amanda Waller could be a far more sinister character than the audience has already witnessed so far. Although the debate about the ‘right’ choice will continue to live on forever, in the end, fans are excited to see what Gunn has in store for them.
