Johnny Depp has been grabbing more headlines for his lawsuit with ex-wife Amber Heard rather than his movie roles. But his fans want to see him rule the silver screens again. In fact, they want him to return as a specific character- Jack Sparrow in another film from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. To ensure that Disney takes note of their interest, some fans started a petition. However, the ambitious project has failed to garner the attention the makers were looking for. So does this mean that we won’t see Depp doing his iconic walk anymore?
Johnny Depp Fans Start A Petition For The Actor
Till now, Johnny Depp has portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in a total of 5 Pirates of the Caribbean films for more than a decade. Reportedly Disney is busy developing two projects set in the franchise, but none of them feature the iconic actor. Depp fans are not having that. So they started a petition to get Disney’s attention and reinstate the actor back into the role he is globally known for. Here’s what the petition reads:
“Johnny Depp has been out recently as Captain Jack Sparrow. We don’t really know the real reason though. He has been playing this role since 2003 when we first saw him arriving at the Port Royal in his boat with that epic background music playing. But can you imagine no Jack Sparrow at all? No epic entry scores, no humorous dialogues and the guy with the most good and bad luck at the same time?”
The petition then makes an appeal to potential signers, saying that without Depp or his Sparrow, the franchise will sink. However, the makers are willing to make one exception. As per the application:
“Don’t they know that without Johnny Depp or Jack Sparrow they will sink, they will never be able to reach that horizon. Even if it means nothing to you but please, sign this petition for the ones who REALLY want Johnny Depp as their Captain of the Black Pearl! They have to bring him back to rule the seas again, UNLESS it is actor’s own choice to withdraw from the role.”
The petition currently has 882k signatures. While that’s a sizeable number and speaks of the might of Depp’s fanbase, getting to the golden 1 million number would probably have given the fanbase a really fighting change to bring the actor back in the pirate role.
Johnny Depp Has a lot on his Plate
The actor went through immense public scrutiny as well as support during his courtroom battle with Amber Heard. Multiple petitions were made during the legal battle. One of the most famous ones called for Amber Heard to be fired from the Aquaman franchise, just like Depp was from the Fantastic Beasts one. That petition has garnered more than 4 million signatures. While it remains to be seen if Amber Heard is in Aquaman 2 or not, Depp isn’t bothered by it. After all, the star isn’t hurting for work.
Now that the two exes have settled, Depp is moving on to follow his creative pursuits. He’s busy being a musician and filming his first film after the trial, called Jeanne Du Barry. The film will see Depp starring as king Louis XV. Apart from this, he will be directing the movie Modigliani. It’s about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. But that’s not all. The director will be the face of Dior Sauvage as well again. So Depp isn’t begging for work, Heard on the other hand is another case altogether.
