Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been receiving a lot of flack from fans of the Arkhamverse. The fact that the title is set in the same universe but doesn’t live to the standards set by Rocksteady with their previous titles has been the reason for a lot of dissatisfaction.
Another thing that is not appreciated about the title is that it is a live-service title. Historically, titles of this nature haven’t been very well-received by fans. But, perhaps the sole advantage of a live-service title is that there is new content, and the studio supports the title for a longer time. Now that the game is close to release and its marketing has taken flight, Rocksteady has released a post-launch roadmap showcasing what fans will receive during the game’s lifecycle.
Rocksteady’s post-launch roadmap for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems promising
The roadmap was revealed by the developer studio using their official Twitter page. The roadmap offers tonnes of content that will come over time at no extra charge, as mentioned explicitly by the company.
Here is the roadmap that is most certainly the studio’s backup after clearly stating that they plan to offer new content to the game’s players continuously. The roadmap was also shared by social media figure Miller Ross, an individual who has been responsible for a lot of details being revealed about the title online:
It seems like Rocksteady is all set to bring one of DC Comics’ most loved villains, Joker, as a playable character and probably one of the most exciting additions to the squad. The roadmap for the season also promises new boss fights, and the superhero duo, Martian Manhunter and the son of Krypton, Superman, take center stage in the offering.
There is also a new playable environment being promised by the studio. The snapshot resembles Joke’s iconic madhouse in previous studio games. It looks like a repurposed Daily Planet building that Joker has taken over.
It also sports the Clown Prince of Crime’s iconic purple and fluorescent green color scheme combination. Season one will also feature DC Villain-themed weapons and gear for players. There will be new content from Riddler, the high-functioning psychopath hell-bent on proving that he has a mind superior to every hero and anti-hero. Some activities and strongholds along with episodes relating to Two-Face and Scarecrow, will also feature in the season.
Beneath all of that, the studio also states that more offerings will be made to the players while Season 1 goes on. The studio has also promised that the upcoming seasons, numbered 2,3 and 4, will feature a similar structure with new content.
New playable environments, a new one with each season, a new playable character with each season, several activities, weapons, and gear are promised to be coming to the title as free seasonal content. It will be worth noticing if Rocksteady also has an offering behind a paywall. It could also be that the following seasons after Season 4 have paid content entirely or in part. So far, the studio has insisted that the microtransactions will only be for cosmetics.
This also looks pretty different from the live service games released earlier because one of the biggest motivators for AAA studios is to offer new content that needs to be paid for and offer it across a larger timeframe. This keeps the game relevant and recovers some costs incurred by the studio for the game’s production.
It is unknown how the expansion will fare or how much the game’s offering as a base title is deemed enjoyable and worth the game’s price tag. But Rocksteady seems to get the quantity part of the picture primarily right. The game could take off despite its live service offering if the quality matches or is comparable to the outstanding trilogy that the studio produced earlier. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases February 2 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
