Jon Hamm starred in the 2007 period drama series titled Mad Men and it was very successful. Starring alongside January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, and, Elisabeth Moss, the series was based on people working in an advertising agency.
Well, turns out the one simple episode from the series helped Heinz (the ketchup company) rake in millions! It wasn’t originally meant to be like this but Heinz company and Mad Men did something called reversed product placement.
Jon Hamm’s Mad Men Helped Heinz Company Make Millions!
Back in 2007, Matthew Weiner created the iconic series Mad Men starring Jon Hamm, January Jones, and, other actors in an ensemble cast. With the lead characters working in an advertising agency, the show accidentally made a brilliant move for Heinz.
During one of the episodes of the show in season six, Jon Hamm’s character pitches an advertisement to the fictional company of Heinz set in the show. The episode sees Draper pitching the advertisement with close-up shots of foods associated with ketchup. Instead of any condiments, a simple three-word statement is written, “Pass The Heinz”.
According to a reel on Instagram, the show and Heinz did something called reversed product placement. With the show promoting the tagline “Pass the Heinz”, Heinz company approached Jon Hamm’s series and struck a deal with AMC and Lionsgate for rights to the idea. The campaign titled “Pass the Heinz” was released in 2017 and the “ads became the most efficient and talked about in Heinz history”.
Not only that but due to the fan-following of the series, the campaign generated 2.6 billion media impressions and also a 4540% return on investment! That’s quite an iconic feat in the world of marketing and Heinz and Jon Hamm’s Mad Men performed it beautifully!
Jon Hamm Would Love To Be A Part of The MCU!
In an interview, Jon Hamm revealed that he would someday love to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to ScreenRant, the actor revealed that the decisions were made at such a high level that it was simply above his pay grade!
“Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.”
The comedian was last seen in the role of Coach Carr in the 2024 film Mean Girls and is associated with 2 other upcoming projects in various stages of development. As for the iconic series, Mad Men is available to stream on AMC+ in the U.S.
