Jon Hamm Turned Down The Role In A Major DC Movie
Jon Hamm has excelled in various roles in his career, but that doesn’t mean he wanted to do every sort of role imagined for him. This includes superhero movies, as he famously once turned down the role of Green Lantern.
While speaking with GQ, Jon Hamm talked about the time he was offered to portray the role of Hal Jordan in the 2011 DC movie Green Lantern. Hamm made it clear he just didn’t feel like doing the role.
”I mean, they came after me pretty hard for Green Lantern. But I was like, meh, that’s not what I want to do. Never say never, but those aren’t the kind of movies I like to go see. Well, he didn’t say never, right?
The aforementioned role of Green Latnern would later go to Ryan Reynolds, which almost killed his career. Thankfully, Ryan Reynolds rebounded in epic fashion as he is now Deadpool – set to release his third movie as the character next year.
Jon Hamm Expressed His Desire To Portray A Major Marvel Villain Recently
As seen in the previous interview, while Jon Hamm was previously against Superhero movies, he seems to have changed his mind, if another interview is to be believed. In case you did not know, Jon Hamm was in talks to play Mister Sinister in the X-Men franchise but that fell through.
While speaking to ScreenRant, Jon Hamm revealed that he definitely wants to portray the role of Dr. Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, especially after he couldn’t be Mister Sinister in the past.
“I don’t know. Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.
Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”
The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the iconic Marvel characters. Matt Shakman is directing the movie – which is set to release in 2025. We’ll have to wait and see if Jon Hamm will end up becoming Dr. Doom in the film.
