Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident arc has been one of the most prominent examples of Gege Akutami’s fine writing. The arc is so well crafted that there is hardly any scope for any error. One of the best things about the arc is that almost every powerful and exciting character showed up in one way or another. Even Toji Fushiguro, who died a few years back, was reincarnated and fought his son, Megumi Fushiguro.
Even though the Shibuya Incident arc is a great piece of plot, there seems to be a lot of suffering. The suffering seems to be especially targeted at the fans and Yuji Itadori in particular. After the struggle, when Yuji was on the verge of giving up, his best friend, Aoi Todo, came to his rescue and inspired him to fight back. Together, they defeated Mahito, but Aoi Todo lost his hands in the process. This gave rise to the question of whether he can still use his Cursed Technique, Boogie Woogie or not.
Aoi Todo Bids Goodbye To Boogie Woogie
Aoi Todo proved himself to be Yuji Itadori’s best friend after motivating him to get back to his feet and fight back Mahito, instead of taking the easy way out. Together, the best friends taught Mahito a good lesson. The fans were so happy to see Mahito getting beaten after what he had been doing since Jujutsu Kaisen season 1. But in the process, Mahito managed to use his Idle Transfiguration to cut off Todo’s left hand.
Aoi Todo’s Cursed Technique, Boogie Woogie, requires him to use both of his hands. His Cursed Technique helps him switch places with other individuals upon clapping his hands. So, cutting his hand is like removing the foundation of his Cursed Technique. But many Jujutsu Kaisen fans might claim that he could easily use a prosthetic arm and use his Boogie Woogie again.
However, that won’t happen because Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration has the power to alter one’s soul. Upon cutting Todo’s hand, he changes Todo’s soul in such a way that will make his body believe that he never had the left hand to begin with. So, even though it is hard to digest, another one of the fan-favorite characters is not able to use his Cursed Technique ever again.
More on Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has been one of the saddest seasons in anime history. It started pretty well, but dark plot twists at every corner seem to overwhelm the fans’ hearts with grief, Ryomen Sukuna’s rampage, Satoru Gojo getting sealed, Nanami Kento’s death, Nobara’s possible death, and now Aoi Todo bidding goodbye to his Boogie Woogie.
Even in the manga, Todo himself confirmed that he could never use Boogie Woogie ever again. As a result, after his battle with Mahito, he was never seen again. In fact, his whereabouts are also not known. The Culling Games is still continuing in the manga, but there has been no mention of Aoi Todo. Todo was a fan-favorite character, and it feels like Gege Akutami is using their magic hands to play with everyone’s emotions.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
