Nanami left the Jujutsu society after one of his close friends, Haibara, was killed. But he returned to take Yuji Itadori under his guidance on Satoru Gojo’s request.

At that moment, Yuji Itadori arrived, and Mahito used his Idle Transfiguration technique on the blonde Cursed Energy user to give him a horrible death.
