Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami has been subjected to much fan heat for their treatment of certain characters. The mangaka has written off multiple fan favorites while some were not utilized properly. Keeping Gojo and Nanami aside, the topic is about Aoi Todo, one of the most underrated underdogs in the manga.
Introduced in Episode 8, Todo immediately made an impression due to his battle-crazed nature and unique way of questioning his opponents before engaging in combat – “What kind of girls do you like?” The catchphrase was adopted from his mentor, Yuki Tsukumo, as it was the first thing that she asked him. He oozed the classic ‘bad-boy’ energy characteristic of shonen side characters that stuck around with the protagonist but the part was short-lived.
What Happened to Aoi Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen?
A Grade 1 sorcerer, Aoi Todo has almost disappeared after his fight with Mahito that occurred from Chapter 127 to Chapter 131. He had to sacrifice one of his arms to stop being able to be completely transfigured by Mahito, giving Yuji Itadori the opportunity to end the battle. However, it was also the last time that he was able to use his special ability named Boogie Woogie.
Boogie Woogie is a favorite technique of JJK fans. Instead of anything fancy, it relies solely on strength and intelligence even for a warmonger like Todo. The technique allowed him to switch the positions of cursed objects or people with cursed energy with just a clap of his hands. Its power was fueled by the user’s strength and Todo possessed superhuman power in almost each strike.

Aoi Todo’s Boogie Woogie made him a favorite but the loss of one hand means he will be unable to use it again. His ‘irrelevance’ is the reason why the character has disappeared in the Shibuya arc. However, Reddit users did note that Todo didn’t need his own hand to use the ability, and could simply use someone else’ to activate Boogie Woogie.
Akutami mentioned in an interview that “Todo’s spirit was broken by Mahito” in the ensuing battle but that isn’t something that could bog down a character who has shown incredible resilience and willpower since his debut in the Kyoto Goodwill arc. Moreover, the mangaka wanted to create him as a “charming and loveable character” so why write off the fan-favorite after achieving the same?

Fans Are Still Hopeful About The Return of Aoi Todo
Despite his connection with Yuji, Gege Akutami failed to make Aoi Todo the perfect right-hand man of the main character. He had the appeal and raw, monstrous physical strength that all fans adore about a side character.
Todo is alive in the Kaisenverse but his absence in Yuji’s fight against Ryomen Sukuna, the primary antagonist in the manga, has upset fans. They are still hopeful of a potential Todo-Yuji pairing up against Sukuna as Chapter 240 nears its release.

Speculations also suggest that Satoru Gojo could be revived in the upcoming chapters to battle with Sukuna. Currently, the villain is busy fighting Yuji Itadori and Hiromi Higurama. If both Gojo and Todo return to assist Yuji and Hiromi in their fight, Jujutsu Kaisen fans will be overhyped.
