Over 10 years after the anime originally began, Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan has finally concluded with the Attack of Titan Season 4 finale episode titled, ‘The Final Chapters (Part 2)’. The episode begins immediately after Armin, Mikasa, and the other survivors arrive safely in Eren. The series finale, for better or worse, was substantially the same as the manga’s prolonged ending with a few minor alterations, thus anyone who read the manga and simply saw the anime will likely have comparable reactions to its end.

Hajime Isayama, the creator of the series who wrote the ending of the manga series, actually stuck with the studio MAPPA to give the Attack on Titan anime the ending that everyone saw. Many fans hoped that Isayama might have made some changes in the anime ending, but he just like Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, handed the command to the studio.

Hajime Isayama Suggested Some Changes For Attack on Titan Anime

While talking to the New York Times in an interview, Isayama explained how there were different things he suggested for the ending of the anime series, but as it is really in the hands of the production, he believed in the studios and let them make the decisions. He said:

“Yes. Absolutely. I checked the script, but the main thing was the storyboards. There were different things I suggested. When it comes down to it, it’s really the role of the production to make those decisions. But I wanted to at least give my input so that they could take those into account when they were making the final decisions.”

He also stated that he at least gave his input so that they could take it into account while making the final cut of the episode. Looking at the controversy, the manga ending brought, Isayama wanted to change some things for the anime series. He even talked about how he wanted to change the manga ending.

Hajime Isayama Wanted to Change The Manga Ending Too

Isayama while talking about the final episode, also reminiscences on the fact that he wanted to change the manga ending too. He wanted to go in a different direction after he wrote the ending of the manga. He said:

“It would have been nice if I could have changed the ending. Writing manga is supposed to be freeing. But if I was completely free, then I should have been able to change the ending. I could have changed it and said I wanted to go in a different direction. But the fact is that I was tied down to what I had originally envisioned when I was young.”

While talking about wanting to change the ending, Isayama also explained how his hands were tied down and he could not give his life’s work the ending that he envisioned originally and the ending the series deserved.
