Devery Jacobs, the gifted performer, embodies the mysterious Kahhori in What If…? Season 2. She recently conveyed a compelling message to Kevin Feige, the visionary at the helm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Amid fervent Marvel fan conjecture about Kahhori’s potential transition to live-action, the 30-year-old seizes the spotlight, delving into the captivating prospect.
Devery Jacobs Discusses the Prospect of Appearing in Live-Action Roles After What If…
Entering the world of live-action possibilities, Devery Jacobs, known for her role as Kahhori in What If…? Season 2, ponders the idea of expanding her Marvel Cinematic Universe presence.
While What If…? Season 2, launched on December 22, has garnered positive fan responses. It’s What If… Kahhori Reshaped The World? that’s stealing the spotlight.
Kahhori, the first MCU superhero without a comic book counterpart, has fans speculating about a potential live-action debut. Jacobs, the actor behind the character, doesn’t have a definite answer, but she’s open to the idea if Marvel’s President Kevin Feige is interested.
Despite voiced characters often having separate actors for animation and live-action, Jacobs sees no obstacle for Kahhori. Except, maybe, for one reason.
Jacobs also takes on the role of Bonnie in the upcoming Echo series, prompting fan speculation about a connection between the characters. While Jacobs dismisses this notion, she believes it wouldn’t necessarily prevent her from portraying Kahhori in the future.
Speaking to Collider, Jacobs expresses her love for Kahhori and her willingness to bring the character to life, whether in live-action or animation. She said,
“Thank you so much. I have been fortunate to play the character Bonnie in the new Echo series. I don’t know,, they’ve brought other people back in multiple roles. So I leave that up to the higher-ups at the MCU.”
Further, the actress added,
“But I just love this character of Kahhori so much, and would love to be able to bring her to life, whether that’s live-action, or whether that’s through animation. I’ll always be there for that.”
As fans await updates, Jacobs’ openness to diverse roles hints at an exciting future in the superhero cinematic universe. Yet, as Jacobs notes, she wouldn’t be the first MCU actor to tackle multiple live-action characters, adding an intriguing layer to her potential contributions.
Devery Jacobs Isn’t the First to Play Various Marvel Characters
Jacobs is jumping into the Marvel mix and is not afraid to switch things up with different roles. She’s not the first to take on a variety of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To make the point, others like Gemma Chan rocked both Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in Eternals.
This trend isn’t new, especially when you dig into Marvel’s pre-Disney+ TV shows like Netflix’s Luke Cage. Alfre Woodard went from Black Mariah in Luke Cage to Miriam Sharpe in Captain America: Civil War. Mahershala Ali, also from Luke Cage, jumped from Cottonmouth to Blade in the MCU.
Now, not all voice actors in What If…? leap live-action. Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch do, reprising Peggy Carter and Doctor Strange. On the flip side, some don’t, like Mick Wingert voicing Iron Man instead of Robert Downey Jr., and Hudson Thames taking on Spider-Man instead of Tom Holland.
But Kahhori from What If…? is unique. She’s the first superhero made just for Marvel Studios’ cinematic multiverse. With no comic-book backstory, Kahhori will forever be tied to Jacobs’ portrayal.
In the ever-growing Marvel saga, the artist joins the crew, injecting creativity and surprise into characters that captivate audiences worldwide.
