The Star Wars franchise has spun up a plethora of merchandise, comic books, and whatnot. But video games have been the most popular way of including the space fantasy franchise into our daily lives. Ever since the 1980s, there have been countless video games across different platforms based on the Star Wars mythos.
Among these is Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, one of the most famous and most-played video games. Heralded for its amazing characters, narrative, and sound, a remake of the video game has been on-and-off development since 2021. And after the latest update of the game’s production status, fans are pissed and want it to be rather canceled.
Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic Remake is Still in Development
Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic was released in 2003 and has since become a favorite among countless Star Wars nerds. While a sequel was released later on and the game was made available for different platforms, it was in 2021 that a remake was first announced.
Despite its initial announcement, there have been no positive updates so far and the game was even paused indefinitely for some time until Saber Interactive started working on it again (see Gaming Bolt). And now in a recent interview with IGN, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch revealed that the remake is still being actively developed.
“It’s clear and it’s obvious that we’re working on this. It’s been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.”
Despite one of the first positive updates in a long while, Karch failed to reveal further details about the game, including the expected release date. Even though fans had been initially excited over the prospect of a remake, many now seem to have changed their opinions. As soon as Karch’s remarks went viral, many expressed disappointment instead of excitement.
Fans Not Happy Over Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic Remake Update
After years of tumultuous development and no updates, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic Remake is finally getting made. Yet fans of the original game, and Star Wars nerds, are not happy with the update, majorly because of how much time has passed since the game was first announced and the lack of conclusive updates.
And on X, numerous fans openly expressed their discontent over the update.
No i lost faith in this game you claim it’s alive and well but keeping us in the dark doesn’t look alive and well to me give us new info and trailers that indicates this game really isn’t dead but keeping us in the dark since it was announced in 2021 isn’t a good sign.

That's a strange way to say it. "It's obvious" is kind of a speculative statement. You would think that someone working on it would have a more definitive answer.

It may be alive, but well?? That is a speculation at best. Until they start marketing it and show gameplay footage, it doesn’t exist. It’s taken way too long for us to not see any hint of progress other than words in the air.

Ugh, just let it die.

Not excited until I see the gameplay trailer. The development has been such a mess

This game is never coming out lol it’s been what 8 years of a remake? I’ll be 70 before this happens

While the majority of fans seemed to have lost all hope about the game, there are still some pretty excited over the prospect of reliving their childhood. As Saber Interactive is yet to reveal what they have been busy cooking, only time will tell what they have in store for us and how fans will react towards the game once it is released.
