Since the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, fans believed that the series’ main antagonist was Sukuna. His nefarious intentions and heinous crimes made him the perfect villain for Jujutsu Kaisen. However, manga fans know that although Sukuna is the main antagonist, there is one other character who could very well be deemed the series’ villain.

The character is none other than Kenjaku, who has been planning the fall of the Jujutsu world for centuries. Since the beginning, he has been controlling things from the background and would have almost prevailed if Yuta Okkotsu hadn’t killed him. However, his plan of destroying the Jujutsu world has not yet ended.

The interesting thing in all of this is that no one truly knows why Kenjaku is trying to destroy everything and transform cursed energy without the limitations of a body. There have been multiple theories about this, and one of these theories states that Kenjaku was betrayed by Tengen which led to the start of his villainous arc.

Kenjaku’s True Goals and Ambitions in Jujutsu Kaisen

Kenjaku is an innate genius and an expert manipulator, as demonstrated during the Culling Game storyline. It appears like all he wants is mayhem and destruction for his own entertainment. However, a closer look reveals that his ambitions are complex. Kenjaku’s true goal is the evolution of humans.

His goal is to establish a world in which all people have the ability to perceive and control cursed energy. He believes this will eliminate the difference between individuals who can and cannot use cursed energy. For this reason, Kenjaku desires to unite all of the curses and humans with Master Tengen to create a single, all-encompassing cursed entity.

However, this would ultimately result in the destruction of the world and create a massive cursed spirit. Kenjaku has had this objective for many years and no one knows what instigated him to plan such a destructive goal that could end the human race once and for all.

Jujutsu Kaisen Theory Explains The Reason Behind Kenjaku’s Motivations

Although there have been many theories that explain Kenjaku’s motivations, the most perfect one was shared by @KaiyoBreeze on X(Formerly Twitter) which stated that maybe Kenjaku and Tengen were more than friends. According to the theory, Tengen and Kenjaku might have been in a relationship during the Heian era, and some evidence supports this theory.

Tengen - Jujutsu Kaisen

The first one is the way Kenjaku talks about Tengen. Kenjaku is always seen complaining about Tengen, which makes their relationship much deeper than friendship. Also, both of their cursed techniques revolve around the concept of immortality which makes their relationship even more plausible. Thus, there is a very good chance that Tengen at some point betrayed Kenjaku which led to the beginning of his evil plan.

Although this theory is not entirely accurate, it does fit the theme of Jujutsu Kaisen. Friends turning into enemies is a common occurrence in Jujutsu Kaisen. The biggest example of this is Suguru Geto. Therefore, it can be said that Gege Akutami used a similar theme to develop the goals and intentions of Kenjaku.
