Actor Charlie Cox is popularly known for portraying Matt Murdock a.k.a., Daredevil in the series Daredevil for Netflix. Inspired by 1970s movies, the series was intended to be darker than other Marvel projects, intentionally avoiding any MCU crossovers. It was the first Marvel Netflix series and was followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, which eventually led to the mini-series The Defenders.
Upon its release, the series received positive comments from the critics as well as the audience, with Charlie Cox’s character becoming one of the fan favorite MCU characters. In 2022, after Disney regained the license for the Marvel series, Daredevil Netflix was canceled to make way for a Disney+ show. Cox will reprise his role for Daredevil: Born Again scheduled for a 2025 release, but recent reports suggest that he could appear in Spider-Man 4 in a significant role.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil to form ‘brotherly bond’ with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man for Spider-Man 4?
Earlier in January 2024, industry insider Daniel Richtman via ComicBook reported that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man are two superheroes that Marvel studios & Sony are looking forward to featuring in Spider-Man 4.
Richtman mentioned that Daredevil’s inclusion in the story is in a sizable role, while Ant-Man’s inclusion is merely a current idea. It was suggested that Cox’s character could appear as a ‘mentor’ for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, especially after Tony Stark’s death. But now, according to the MCU News and Updates account on X, Marvel Studios and President Kevin Feige are planning to bring Daredevil in Spider-Man 4, but not as a mentor but as an equal.
The reports suggest that Feige, along with the makers of Spider-Man 4, are looking forward to having Spider-Man & Daredevil work as equals. Adding that the two superheroes could come together to do what they do best; stop the violence in New York City and create a brotherly bond along the way.
According to reports by ScreenRant, the two characters are often depicted as close friends in Marvel Comics, so it would be interesting to see them together in the upcoming Spider-Man 4. With recent reports suggesting that the two superheroes could appear as equals in the movie, fans are excited about the project as they believe that the plot of the two of them working together as equals sounds so much better and promising.
Tom Holland on working with Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home
In an interview with THR in 2022, Holland shared his experience working with Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home, further suggesting a future team-up. He said,
“Working with Charlie was incredibly exciting. I was a big fan of the Daredvil series and I think he’s a fantastic actor. He’s done a wonderful job with that character, and albeit it was a small cameo, it obviously teased the future of what could be.”
Holland added that the scene was a real actors’ piece, noting that they blocked the scenes, which was essentially them sitting there, and they read the lines. Tom Holland noted it was great to add;
“It felt like an actors’ workshop while working with people I really look up to, and Charlie was a lot of fun. It was really cool to see him snap back into a character that I am really a fan of and that he has a lot of love for obviously. So it was pretty awesome, and I hope that one day we find a way for Spider-Man and Daredevil to team up again.”
Talking about the updates of Spider-Man 4, Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez recently suggested that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man would have its story continued, but the chance of him getting a full-blown movie is minimal. The highly awaited Spider-Man 4 is in development with Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man, and for now, there has been no information provided for the movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is streaming on Netflix, whereas the Daredevil series is streaming on Disney+.
