Although Kristen Stewart has stated that she may never do any MCU film until Greta Gerwig directs one, she would have been the perfect cast to play one of the strongest X-Men characters- Rogue. Over the years, the Bella Swan fame has been fan-cast in several Marvel roles. However, her acting skills and looks could have been perfect for playing Anna Marie in the MCU.

Kristen Stewart, despite being subjected to memes and pop culture jokes due to her role in the Twilight franchise, has given some incredible performances in indie films. Even before Twilight, she was praised for her performance in David Fincher’s Panic Room. Her performances in Spencer and the latest A24 film Love Lies Bleeding were also acclaimed.

Similar to other popular celebrities, Kristen Stewart has also been fan-cast in many Marvel roles. The popularity of the MCU and its rising roster of actors has encouraged ardent fans to fan-cast their favorite comic book characters. Stewart is often associated with Marvel characters like Magik, Sue Storm, and Black Cat, but nothing suits her quite like Rogue.

Rogue is arguably one of the best and strongest X-Men members, possessing the gift of absorbing the powers of other individuals. Earlier, Anna Paquin played the role of Rogue in 20th Century Fox’s live-action universe. With the MCU looking forward to introducing the mutants in their universe, it will be interesting to see how they showcase the superheroine.

In the comics, Rogue has proven to be the strongest mutant in several instances. Once she absorbed the powers of all the X-Men and the Avengers and singlehandedly saved Earth from a Celestial. Her strength of absorption almost makes her unbeatable.

It must be noted that there is also an emotional touch to Rogue’s character. For a long time, she considered her powers a curse for not letting her be close to her loved ones. Besides the superhero side of the character, Kristen Stewart could also have portrayed this emotional turmoil very well. However, her comments suggest that it is almost impossible for her to join the MCU.

The stories of studio interventions have been very common when it comes to popular franchises like Marvel and DC. Several renowned directors have expressed their displeasure in working in such an uncomfortable environment without much creative freedom. Kristen Stewart also reflected similar sentiments when asked about her interest in joining the MCU.

During her conversation at the Not Skinny, But Not Fat podcast, Stewart exclaimed that working at Marvel sounds like a “nightmare” to her- “I will likely never do a Marvel movie… it sounds like a f*cking nightmare, actually”. According to her, the big-budget films curb the director’s creative mind and it ends up being an “algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it.”

She also added that if a critically acclaimed director like Greta Gerwig approaches her for a Marvel movie, she would not hesitate to accept it. However, it is debatable if the Barbie director will ever want to helm an MCU film. Earlier, several directors like Edgar Wright, Scott Derickson, and Patty Jenkins left the studio due to the limitations of their creative freedom.
