Baldur’s Gate 3 was a welcome surprise from Larian and captivated fans with its amazing visuals and rich story. Success can bring inspiration and motivation to do another; however, not everyone at Larian is keen on adding follow-up content for an already great game, which is why director Swen Vincke decided to move on from Baldur’s Gate 3. Despite having a foundation for a DLC, he chose not to push through, and for good reason, the developers at Larian were elated and relieved.

Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC Was Cancelled, and Passion Was the Reason

Director Swen Vincke was under the impression that the studio only worked on additional content because it thought it needed to. The team worked tirelessly to perfect Baldur’s Gate 3 and even discussed doing potential DLCs and a sequel, but Vincke read the room and already tell its heart was not in the right place, so it decided to move on to other projects.

You could see the team was doing it because everyone felt like we had to do it, but it wasn’t really coming from the heart, and we’re very much a studio from the heart. It’s what gotten us into misery and it’s also been the reasons for our success.

The team behind the game knows what is best for it and whether its passion is more powerful than corporate greed. Sequels and DLCs relating to Baldur’s Gate 3 would undoubtedly be a huge commercial success, but Larian is driven by commitment, which can be a bold move.

Vincke showed his tenacity by not forcing his team to pump out any content that it believes is unnecessary, and from its point of view, Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a perfect game and doesn’t need to be touched upon.

Larian Studios Is Fueled by Passion and Excitement

What is next for Larian Studios if they're not working on a DLC or a sequel for Baldur's Gate 3?

The studio has more up its sleeves, and Vincke is more excited than ever now that his team is once again passionate about working on something new. The director also stated the technical difficulties of integrating certain game mechanics into a video game; perhaps this is one of the main reasons why it decided to shift away, which will reflect the difficulty of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Both of these games will test the commitment and skill of their players.

BG3 may not be getting a follow-up, and maybe it doesn’t need to because it is perfect the way it is and this move is healthy for Larian as a studio. Closing a door will open to new ones, and the success of BG3 will give it the confidence to work on something far more creative. Passion trumps greed, and Vincke proves that is the heart of his family.
