Thanks to several leaks on X, a new Call of Duty canceled game was found. This game with the code name NX1 would have been launched instead of the 2013 entry, Call of Duty: Ghosts. The title would have been Future Warfare. Much of the content of this CoD was already done, like multiplayer maps and some missions in the story.

There was a video on X with one lunar mission and classic Call of Duty action. Another leak was the multiplayer map list with one name that caught attention: Bin Laden’s compound.

Call of Duty: Future Warfare, What Could Have Been?

Instead of Call of Duty: Ghosts, we could have had Call of Duty: Future Warfare.

This cancelled Call of Duty with the code name NX1 could have been a very interesting project. Keep in mind that Call of Duty: Ghosts was not well received by critics and fans. Considering that the same year Battlefield 4 was launched, it was one of the most praised titles in the franchise, Activision’s cancelled game could have been one nice opportunity for the franchise after the Infinity Ward debacle.

Future Warfare had some fascinating ideas. But beyond the leaked content, there was not enough material done.

Some leaked material on X has the names of the different missions in the story mode. Then, thanks to other leaks, the lists of multiplayer maps were shown. One of those maps had the name of Bin Laden’s compound. As always, Call of Duty likes controversy. There is no actual confirmation of a Bin Laden mission in the game, but the map name draws a lot of attention. This beta of the game is not completely finished and is not possible to download at the moment.

Several leaked videos of the gameplay show that this entry in the franchise could be more like Black Ops II than the subsequent Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Future Warfare is pretty futuristic, but not as futuristic as the other mentioned games. There is no indication of the parkour and wall-jumping mechanics in this game. More leaked content talks about an Escort mode.

The Downfall of a Canceled Project

This CoD in particular was developed in part by Neversoft, the creators of Guitar Hero. This was shown in the clip posted on X; before the mission, the Neversoft logo shows off. Also, X user Brian Bright responded to the post, talking about how he has worked on the game and how his team did two or three missions for Future Warfare. Then he confirmed that the game was replaced by Ghosts back in 2013.

That particular year was the generational change between the Xbox 360 and PS3 for the PS4 and the Xbox One. So many games were developed for both generations, like Battlefield 4 and Ghosts.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
