Acclaimed for playing the role of a powerful mutant in movies like Logan, X-Men, The Wolverine, etc., Jackman has left a lasting impression on the hearts of cinema lovers. Although the actor has always been content with his contribution, his words feel like he has an unfulfilled wish regarding his most famous character.

Hugh Jackman Had a Different Idea for the Ending of Wolverine

It was certainly very unfortunate for the fans of Wolverine that the ending of Logan(2017) also brought the ending of Wolverine. The co-writer and director of Logan, Mr. James Mangold was always very confident about the ending of the film even though it came at the cost of Wolverine’s death.

Although the ending of Logan is referred to as the perfect ending, Hugh Jackman initially wasn’t ready to sign up for it. Jackman wanted Wolverine to stay alive instead of getting killed. He was pretty sure that even if Wolverine stayed alive, the film would turn out great.

Referring to the ending of Logan, The Greatest Showman star said (via Cinema Blend):

“It was always floated that Logan would possibly die. Let’s be open, because it may be more powerful for him not to die.”

Jackman had also proposed that instead of getting killed, the film could end with Wolverine walking away. However, he couldn’t convince Mangold to change the ending and ultimately the world witnessed the death of its favorite superhero in Logan.

Fans are aware that Adamantium was constantly poisoning Wolverine’s insides and when Wolverine’s healing system couldn’t keep pace with the poison, it resulted in his death. Now, the question is if Wolverine died in Logan(2017), then how come he will be seen alive in Deadpool 3(2024)?

To begin with, the Wolverine who died in Logan has not come back to life. Marvel has not made any changes to the perfect ending of Logan to excite the fans. To reintroduce the character of Wolverine in Deadpool 3, Marvel has pitched another variant of Wolverine from a different timeline.

Jackman elaborated on this in an interview with SiriusXM, via Gamespot:

“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s “science”. So, I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

Given that Deadpool 3 is a multiverse movie, it’s no surprise that the variant of Wolverine sounds logical. There’s no chance that the filmmakers are going to play with the events of Logan to force the character of Wolverine in the upcoming Marvel movies. The return of Wolverine is just a gift for fans of Marvel’s multiverse concept.
