Hugh Jackman’s only condition seems to be a little difficult for the Marvel Studios to comply with, majorly because RDJ’s Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame, and bringing him back without a reinforcing explanation and plotline would only ruin his most iconic moment in the MCU.
Kevin Feige on RDJ’s Potential Return as Iron Man
While Hugh Jackman wants to share the screen with the Tropic Thunder actor, Kevin Feige has already shared a statement with Variety, where he stated that he had to fight for his vision and put his faith in RDJ, who was attempting for a comeback after he was arrested multiple times for drug possession and no studio was willing to take the risk and put him in charge of a huge franchise.
“It purely came down to the Marvel board being nervous at putting all of their chips in their future films on somebody who famously had those legal troubles in the past. I wasn’t very good — and I’m still not great — at taking no for an answer.”
He added that the climactic ending of Avengers: Endgame was a fitting ending to Downey Jr.’s iconic run in the MCU, and they don’t want to ruin it in any manner.
“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
Nevertheless, RDJ had hinted at his potential return to the MCU, as he was a guest on the Literally podcast where he received a phone call in the middle of the podcast, which promoted Lowe to ask, “Is that some Marvel s*it? Are you going to break some stories here?”. Downey Jr. replied, “Not just yet.” Now only time will tell if the actor will return to the MCU again.
Deadpool 3 will be released in theatres on 26th July 2024.
