The Diego Luna starrer Andor was commissioned after his beloved character from the Star Wars prequel film Rogue One. The series acted as a prequel to both Rogue One and Star Wars: A New Hope. The show follows the origins of Luna’s Cassian Andor as he changes from being a revolution-averse person to a hero who sacrifices his life for the Rebellion.

The series begins with Cassian Andor being recruited by the rebel leader Luthen Rael to undertake a task on the planet of Aldhani and he successfully executes it. However, he is later sent to the prison planet Narkina-5 as he is accused of vandalism. When he reaches the prison, he sees more oppression towards the prisoners.

In the tenth episode of the series ‘One Way Out’, Andor plans a prison uprising and an escape with the help of his fellow prisoners. He recruits the sycophantic floor manager Kino Loy, played by Andy Serkis to successfully convince his floor of prisoners to join the uprising and then leads them to an escape. The episode also features a deeper delve into the funding practices of the Rebellion and the problems rebels like Mon Mothma faced.

‘One Way Out’ ends with the prisoners escaping Narkina-5 as they jump into the vast ocean outside the prison. However, Kino Loy, after an inspiring monologue to rally the prisoners, seemingly sacrifices his life as he claims that he cannot swim. The episode was considered to be one of the most beloved episodes in Star Wars.

Fans Consider The Andor Snub To Be Unforgivable

Many considered the Star Wars show Andor’s ‘One Way Out’ episode to be one of the best of the show and even Star Wars in general. Shows such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka still seem to have their share of criticisms but Andor seems to have unanimous approval from the fandom.

A Reddit user described their adoration towards the episode on the official Star Wars subreddit,

“All of Andor is great, but One Way Out is a masterpiece of cinema…I’m not even trying to be hyperbolic. The photography, the writing, the pacing, the acting, the music, the symbolism, the constant ratcheting up of tension punctuated by cathartic relief shadowed by heroic tragedy, and then it’s all followed up but one of the all-time great anti-hero monologues…Strip off the Star Wars motif and it makes no difference.”

The episode was also nominated for the Emmy Awards’ Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for writer Beau Willimon. However, the episode lost out to the Succession episode ‘Connor’s Wedding’, which also won the Award for Outstanding Directing. Fans were up in arms about the snub for Andor.

Many compared the Andor snub to Better Call Saul’s ultimate snub of 53 Emmy nominations without a win over the course of six seasons. The second season of Andor seems to be the only hope out of the misery.
