Josh Brolin has cemented an indelible legacy in the television and film industry. Having followed his father, James Brolin’s footsteps, he began acting in the mid-1980s with small television roles and began to venture his steps into the film industry.
His breakout role eventually happened in 2007 when he portrayed Llewelyn Moss’s role in No Country for Old Men. Not only did that role catapult him to fame but also opened new doors in the acting world.
In a recent Instagram reel, he gave a house tour to his fans and recounted his 1980s memories especially when he got mocked by his Gangster Squad co-star, Sean Penn and the reason is indirectly Tom Cruise!
Sean Penn Subtly Made Fun of Josh Brolin During Pool Game Session!
In a new Instagram reel, Dune: Part Two actor, Josh Brolin gave a tour of his guesthouse and Airstream trailer in Malibu, California. As he explained significant memories or facts regarding each room of the house, he shared an interesting encounter with Sean Penn as he spotted his billiard table.
Recounting his old days, he stated,
“I love playing pool, and we were playing in Barney’s Beanery once, and Sean Penn was behind me.”
He continued sharing that Tom Cruise’s 1986 movie, The Color of Money was released at the time, which also hinted about Penn’s story timeline. He added how Penn mocked the former as he stated,
“And the color of money had just come out, and I had a big pompadour at the time. And Sean Penn said, look, another Tom Cruise wannabe.”
While this could have been nothing but a friendly joke between the duo, they ended up working together in Milk (2008) and Gangster Squad (2013). For working in the 2008 film, both the actors garnered critical acclaim and accolades including an Oscar nod for Brolin.
As for why Penn compared the MCU alum to the Top Gun actor, it was quite simple as he flaunted a pompadour in his movie. Not just that, Cruise’s The Color of Money revolved significantly on pool sports. But, Cruise’s the guy who can make impossible stunts possible given his record, and even nailed at playing pool.
Tom Cruise Impressed Everyone With His Pool Skills!
Michael Sigel, who coached Cruise and his movie co-star, Paul Newman in pool sports shared his experience with UPI. Even though the Mission: Impossible actor learned the sport from scratch, he left a great impression on his mentor with his fast-learning skills.
Sigel shared,
“He had natural form, but we had to start from scratch. I could see that he has [a] natural talent in the game. He worked at it. He devoted a lot of time and it paid off.”
Whereas late actor also complimented his co-star in an old interview via Jim Lynn’s YouTube video in which he stated,
“Cruise was fantastic. He never had a pool cue in his hand. Really? And he was as good, if not better than I was, in five weeks.”
Overall, he performed almost all of the difficult shots by himself except for one tricky shot, which Sigel performed in the movie. Since it was a sequel to 1961’s The Hustler, many felt it was inferior to its predecessor even though the 1986 movie ended up garnering positive responses.
The Color of Money is available on Amazon Prime Video.
