After reports of various developmental delays, there haven’t been any new updates for a few months on the project. And as per a piece of recent news about the actor, it seems to hint he might have just committed a career blunder by rejecting one DC movie for Blade.

Mahershala Ali as Blade would be an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But ever since his inclusion was first announced in July 2019 (via IGN), there has been no conclusively positive news so far. Instead what fans have gotten is a series of unfortunate news involving actors leaving, multiple script changes, and developmental delays.

While the movie is slated to release in 2025 there has been no news of its production starting any time soon after getting delayed by the twin Hollywood strikes (via THR). As per The Sneider Cut podcast, Ali might have just committed a career blunder by choosing the project.

Reportedly the actor was the first choice for the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon for the DC movie, The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. However, due to the then-shooting schedule of the Blade reboot, the actor had to let go of the role.

While we all know the reboot Marvel movie is nowhere near complete, Ali might have just made the biggest mistake of his career by letting go of The Batman. Not only has the Matt Reeves‘ DC flick released and was very well received, but even its sequel is in the works.

While there are many things wrong with Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been pretty upset over how Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot is being treated (see Reddit). Before the movie’s production was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA strikes, Variety had reported there were other things wrong with the movie as well.

As per the news site, the project has gone through at least five writers, two directors, and one shutdown six weeks before production. Furthermore, the script even turned into a narrative from a women’s perspective with Blade turning into a fourth lead.

With rumors of the two-time Oscar winner wanting to exit the movie over the script changes, Kevin Feige reportedly hired Michael Green, the writer behind the cinematic masterpiece Logan. While the movie is eyeing a release date of 2025, Ali in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December had stated that he is encouraged by the recent developments of the film.
