With the Actors Strike of 2023 resulting in many Hollywood films and shows being indefinitely postponed and moved forward, Marvel’s Kraven The Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson has seen multiple shifts in release dates as well. The film is finally set to hit the screens in December 2024 as per reports coming in.
While one of the reasons behind this change of date involves taking full advantage of the holiday season to boost box office numbers, actor Stephen Sean Ford had an intriguing theory that is linked to speculations about Johnson’s possible James Bond gig and the effect it could have on the Marvel project. Kraven The Hunter Pitted To Be A Runaway Holiday Hit According to Producer
After making his mark as Quicksilver in the MCU, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to regale audiences with his charismatic presence in Marvel’s Kraven The Hunter. This Sony Spiderman Universe film which will follow the origin story of one of Spider-Man’s nemesis, was originally scheduled to release as early as January 2023.
Following the aftermath of the Actors Strike in which many projects experienced delays, the movie was postponed multiple times before the latest reports indicated that it will finally hit theaters during the holiday season in 2024.
Speaking to Screen Rant about the theory behind releasing the movie in December, producer Matt Tolmach believed that Christmas time provided the perfect opportunity to maximize viewership for a film that came with high expectations and deservedly so.
Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again. That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We’re really excited. But that’s a great move that reflects just the feeling about the movie.
This decision could also be seen as a strategic one judging by the reception that previous films in the Sony Spider-Man Universe have received. With Madame Web and Morbius failing to make any impact at the box office, a lot will be riding on Johnson and Kraven The Hunter to deliver a win this time around.
The Possible Connect Between James Bond And The Delay Of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven
One of the biggest casting decisions that is being widely speculated among fans is the actor who will portray the next James Bond after Daniel Craig. While the franchise has played its cards close to its chest till now, multiple names have been thrown into the mix including Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Marvel alum Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
While many reports indicated that Johnson may have well and truly bagged the role after rumors that Barbara Broccoli was looking for a younger secret agent this time around, these speculations are yet to be confirmed. As viewers are waiting to know what would come of this, actor Stephen Sean Ford has created a lot of excitement with his theory regarding Johnson’s Kraven The Hunter release.
While the film is now being slated for a December release as a definite move to gain more viewership, Ford believed that there was a bigger financial motive to this decision which could turn out to be a genius move that he elucidated more upon on his X handle.
My tinfoil hat theory is that Sony is pushing Kraven the Hunter until after he’s been announced as 007 this fall so they can potentially cash in on more box office.
