Fans may be anticipating James Gunn’s take on the Superman movie, but there’s another show that definitely puts a lot of twist in it, and that’s My Adventures with Superman animated series. The shonen anime-inspired project sees Clark Kent, voiced by Jack Quaid, as he juggles life as a superhero and his work at the Daily Planet.

Many hated the show, particularly Lois Lane’s portrayal, but executive producer Jake Wyatt thinks she’s “the Batman” in her relationship with Kent. What’s the deal with Lane, and why is everyone hating on her?

My Adventures With Superman Producers Called Lois Lane “The Batman

In an interview with Comicsbeat, executive producers Jake Wyatt and Josie Campbell talked about Lois Lane in My Adventures with Superman. The latter claimed they pitched it as a rom-com with punching, and they also watched the ‘70s Superman film.

Clark has these powers, but Lois is the one pushing him to do things even when she doesn’t know that she is. He wouldn’t be Superman without Lois. And Lois would be locked in a bad guy’s trunk and in a lot of trouble if it wasn’t for Superman.”

Wyatt, then, quipped, “Lois is the Batman in the relationship and in this show! [Batman voice] “They must be punished!” Campbell agreed and said, “For sure! A hundred percent! I think if Lois had the superpowers this would be a darker show.”

One of the things fans hated about Lane in My Adventures with Superman was she guilt-tripped Kent into revealing his superhero identity. The previous episodes saw her figuring out and connecting the dots if Kent was actually Superman.

Moreover, fans hated how the show made Lane join the league of The Flash’s Iris West and Spider-Man’s Mary Jane Watson, or the characters who follow the same trope of putting themselves in danger to force their partner into revealing their superhero identity.

How Lane is considered as the Batman of the relationship according to Wyatt remains a puzzle. Fans hated this superhero trope, and they even hated Lane for her toxic behavior of attempting to commit s**cide and getting mad at Kent after he revealed to her his true persona.

Why Fans Hated My Adventures With Superman

A fan shared his thoughts on Comic Vine on why he thinks My Adventures with Superman has a poor script. He believed the writer “wanted some heat on her” but now, he doesn’t think “he or anyone at DC have any idea what to do with the character.”

The bad writing has made the character unreadable to me. Outing Clark and then the writer using the delaying tactic of telling us why and having it turn out to be a truly dumb thing for her to do and the aftermath.”

The executive producers praising Lane’s character in the show does not really justify or explain why she behaved in such a way that she not only endangered herself but also risked Superman’s identity and the safety of his loved ones.
