Every otaku will accept the fact that MAPPA is doing Jujutsu Kaisen the justice it deserves (even if it is at the cost of their animators). Not only is the series incredibly animated, but the opening and ending theme songs are equally good.

However, one of the best parts of the entire Jujutsu Kaisen experience is finding the hidden symbolism in every OP and ED. MAPPA is well known for putting in that extra effort in theme songs, take the Chainsaw Man OP, for example.

Of course, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s theme songs have many hidden meanings, and fans can only point them out now that the anime is complete.

Death Symbolism of Mechamaru in Jujutsu Kaisen Opening 2

In the second opening song of Jujutsu Kaisen, around the mark of 1 minute, and 2 seconds, a photograph is shown. The photo, captured in the Jujutsu High classroom, portrayed Ultimate Mechamaru, Mai, Miwa, and Momo. While Mechamaru was in a shadow, the rest of them were illuminated by light.

This could be a foreshadowing of Kokichi’s turn for the worse. His resentment led him to take unsavory steps toward his classmates, which ultimately led to his demise.

Multiple deaths have been foreshadowed in the third ending song of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. The first one to talk about should be of Rika Amanai. In a scene, a student behind her is erasing a board, which could symbolize either erasing her background or life. As you might know, she gets killed in the first half of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.

Another scene shows Gojo and Geto playing in an arcade. While Gojo wins and is shown as happy, Geto is shown losing and disappointed. This could foreshadow the differences between them later, and how Gojo ultimately had to kill his best friend.

The third ending song is particularly eventful with its light and dark shadows. A shot shows Gojo, Geto, and Shoko parting ways on their way back from school. While the sunlight illuminates Gojo and Shoko, Geto enters a dark alley. Naturally, this alludes to the dark path he would later take in his life and get separated from his friends.

According to fans’ observations, MAPPA has used the light and darkness feature in its theme songs to foreshadow many plot points in Jujutsu Kaisen. The characters in the dark usually turn out to be villains or meet their demise, while the characters in the light areas are safe (for the moment).

In fact, even Nobara’s fate is loud and clear in the opening song of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. Nobara covers her eye when she is surrounded by chairs, a reference to her fight with Mahito and her ambiguous death.

It is clear that MAPPA has established a pattern of hints and will continue it throughout the anime.
