Emma Stone is ‘Learning Not to Care’ About Film Reviews

Emma Stone attended the Critics Choice Awards this year, capping off a packed week of events. Talking about her acclaimed role in the 142-minute film Poor Things during her acceptance speech, she made light of the influence of critics in the business:

“Playing Bella was one of the greatest joys of my life. I got to unlearn a lot of things in playing her. Unlearn parts of shame and societal stuff that gets put on us, and I’m still working on it.”

The 35-year-old actress then made a joke as she finished her speech:

“This is the Critics Choice Awards — and it is about outside opinion — but I’m very grateful to the critics for this. But I’m just learning not to care what you think.”

What attracted her to this particular role? Stone had previously stated (via PEOPLE) why she was drawn to her Bella role. She

“Felt like acceptance of what it is to be a woman, to be free, to be scared and brave. She’s understanding what it is to be a member of society.”

What about her look? Fans are always eager to learn what their favorite celebrities have worn during these special award ceremonies. The Academy Award-winning actress donned a custom Louis Vuitton black one-shoulder dress with scalloped details (via ELLE). She accessorized it with diamond earrings and a necklace. She even had ‘BB’ detailing on her dress, which was probably a reference to her character Bella Baxter from Poor Things.

In addition, the $21.2 million film received 13 Critics’ Choice Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.
