Robert Kirkman has successfully adapted the Invincible comic book series that he has written into Amazon’s hit animated series. He chose Steven Yeun to be the voice of Mark Grayson in the series. Fans have loved the gritty and dark take on the superhero genre in addition to the emotionally layered dynamic between the titular character and Omni-Man.

Kirkman has already revealed his plans for a live-action adaptation of the series. In an interview with IGN, Kirkman claimed that the film would have a different treatment than the series so that it could stand on its own. In a surprise twist, Kirkman stated that he cannot wait to see Yeun play Cecil Stedman, a much older character, who is the head of the Global Defense Agency in the series. He said,

“It’s not something that we’re rushing, it’s something that we definitely want to get right. Now that the show is out and the animated series is doing we’re trying to figure out ways to make sure that it stands apart, works in tandem with the show. To show how cool Invincible is and doesn’t detract from it in any way. So there’s a lot of maneuvering that has to go into that and so it is taking a little bit of time but I can’t wait for everyone to see Steven Yeun as Cecil Stedman.”

Kirkman is clearly joking around about Yeun’s live-action casting. However, he seems to be confident in the material for the film and is taking it slow so that it comes out well on screen. It remains to be seen when he decides to start production on it.

He further claims that he has seen all the animatics of all the episodes of the third season and is clear about how he wants to start and end the season. He stated that if audiences loved seasons 1 and 2, season 3 would be even more exciting and action-packed. He said,

I’ve seen animatics of every episode (in season 3). So I’ve seen things moving. I’ve seen the actors all edited together. I’ve seen our amazing directing crew and all the board artists have some form of the show together. And so I’ve seen the entire season in rough form, laid out. I’ve seen all the movements I’ve seen where the season ends up and it’s really cool.

It’s really cool being as far along as we are and having the confidence to know, ‘Oh, you like season one? If you like season one, you’re going to love season two and if you really love season two, you’re really, really going to love season three'”

The second half of Invincible Season 2 is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on March 14, 2024. Fans can catch up on the first season and the first half of the second season before it hits the streamer.
