Mark Wahlberg Had to Get a Spray Tan Each Week!

Based on the story of the Sun Gym Gang, which was notorious and active in the mid-1990s, Pain & Gain explored the lives of three friends who kidnap a rich businessman, but their plan backfires. Loosely based on the story of the Sun Gym Gang, Pain & Gain was a unique feature by Michael Bay.

Well, when Mark Wahlberg initially heard about the project, the actor felt quite excited about the movie. Since he revealed that he would be willing to do anything to star in this movie, the Ted star revealed to Refinery 29 that the most uncomfortable thing that he had to do was get a spray tan each week!

“I don’t do anything really weird, in respect to gym routines, but, the weirdest thing and the most uncomfortable thing I’ve done was for this movie, having to get a spray tan every week. I don’t like the sun, it’s not good for me, but Michael insisted I be as tan as possible.”

He further continued,

“So, he’d make me get a spray tan. I’d do it on my balcony of my hotel room, which was on the 17th floor! You would think you’d be free from all the cameras and paparazzi, and there I was getting photographed in my underwear getting a spray tan. Not a good look.”

Well, the actor revealed that the story was so fascinating that he didn’t believe that it was real at first. Wahlberg had a bizarre reaction to reading the script and, hence, loved the role of Daniel Lugo in the movie.

With the Sun Gym Gang wreaking havoc in Miami, the 2013 film took inspiration from the events, and Wahlberg apparently loved it. In a separate interview with Impulse Gamer, the Shooter actor revealed that he would do anything to be in the movie.

“I thought the story was fascinating. I’ve had this fascination with body building from a very young age. I read the script before I read the articles, and I said ‘There’s no way this can be true’. But sure enough, most of these things happened. I read the script, met with Michael, and said, ‘I will do anything to be in the movie,’”

Starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie, Pain & Gain was a commercial success but suffered from critics for its extreme amount of violence in the movie. The 2013 movie received a rating of 6.4/10 on IMDB and an average of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and is available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.
