With the recent reveal trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra came a renewed sense of excitement from fans of the franchise. During the Epic Games panel at the Game Developers Conference fans finally discovered the official title for the game which was teased way back in 2022.
Although there isn’t much given away in terms of gameplay, the game being developed by Skydance New Media does show that in addition to the two main protagonists of Captain America and Black Panther, players will also be to play as one of the Howling Commandos and as a member of the Wakandan Spy Network. So there is sure to be plenty of variety in the play styles throughout.
Is the casting of Black Panther, another success?
The reaction from fans following the trailer was positive but one thing that certainly caught many fans’ eyes was the casting of the Black Panther character. Many took to Social Media to praise the studio for work well done.

Based on fan comments, Khary Payton’s casting has been seen as an overwhelming success. With a pedigree of live-action work in series such as The Walking Dead and General Hospital, Payton has also lent his incredible voice talents to Teen Titans GO! and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so seeing him cast here is just an ideal pairing.
The character he is portraying is Azzuriz who is noted from comic books as being the grandfather of T’Challa. Given how well Chadwick Boseman was received when cast as Prince T’Challa there was always danger of any future Black Panther castings not living up to the late actor’s portrayal. However, Khary Payton appears to have been an excellent casting choice by fans.
Rise of Hydra – who else could we see?
Although we didn’t see much of any Hydra villains apart from the low-level grunts, we would expect that players would come up against Johann Schmidt, as many fans will no doubt know better as the Red Skull. However, we could see other notable characters like Arnim Zola and Baron Strucker, given that it has been confirmed that the Howling Commandos will feature prominently.
As we reported recently there are plenty of easter eggs which no doubt fans have picked up on. Amongst them are several references to the comic book history and the MCU, which is always pleasing to see that developers have a firm grasp on source material.
Judging by comments across various Social Media sites, this game appears to be one that Marvel fans are hyped about and despite it not being available until 2025, they are more than happy to wait. With other Marvel titles on the horizon, fans of the franchise will no doubt be rubbing their hands in expectation.
