While they have somewhat appreciated the movie trying to remain true to the comics, one particular dialogue has been bugging them, and it has to do with Adam Scott’s Uncle Ben. Unable to believe that Sony actually made such a grave mistake, needless to say, Sony has been getting a lot of hate from Marvel fans on the internet.

Sony’s Grave Mistake with Uncle Ben in Madame Web

Adam Scott as Ben Parker in Madame Web

Uncle Ben and Aunt May have been integral parts of the Spider-Man mythos ever since the friendly neighborhood web-slinger made its on-screen debut. Even in all the live-action movies, other than Tom Holland’s MCU movies, Uncle Ben has been instrumental in shaping Peter Parker’s identity and morality as a superhero with unmatchable powers. Yet Sony in its latest Spider-Man spinoff flick starring Dakota Johnson seems to have made a grave mistake regarding his character.

Although it is unconfirmed, the movie itself makes it clear that Adam Scott is actually Uncle Ben, but from what universe we don’t know. Throughout the movie, Ben makes subtle nods to the existence of Aunt May and even introduces us to Mary Parker who is apparently pregnant with Peter Parker. While this is all fine for the fans, the problem arises when Peter Parker is born.

As Cassie (Johnson’s character Cassandra Webb) is recovering from her horrific accident in the hospital, she is told Ben Parker is enjoying being an uncle with all the fun and none of the responsibility. Fans could not believe that Sony used this line, which seems to be a direct quip to Uncle Ben’s iconic line from the comics and the movies:

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

While there is another line that resembles this great iconic line, fans have taken offense to this particular one and allege that Sony should not be in charge of Spider-verse anymore despite its insanely good Across the Spider-verse movies.

Marvel Fans Are Angry Over Sony’s Dialogue Mistake

Madame Web seems to have given Marvel fans endless reasons for making them angry. But this one dialogue from the flick has been gaining a lot of hate from the fans despite its importance. After Cassie is given this information, she mysteriously states ‘That’s what he thinks’. Her statement is a testament to her psychic abilities as well as Uncle Ben’s future since he eventually ends up taking responsibility of his nephew and raises him after Richard and Mary Parker’s death.

Yet Marvel fans expressed the following sentiments on the internet:

And so while Sony does not appear to be handing back the rights of Spider-Man to Disney anytime soon, as per the behest of the fans, maybe they should hire some better writers!

Madame Web is in theatres now.
