The Fantastic Four reboot is currently making the buzz with its confirmed cast of Marvel’s First Family: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Still, a major role has not found its actor yet, and this has been keeping fans on their toes.
So far, there have been a couple of popular big-screen iterations of the franchise: 2005’s Fantastic Four, the critically-panned 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and the box-office flop 2015’s Fantastic Four.
The Fantastic Four Is Yet To Cast Its Silver Surfer Actor
A report from industry insider Jeff Sneider claims that Marvel Studios is still looking for the perfect actor to play the Silver Surfer. In a previous scoop from the same source, he revealed that fans “can expect to see a female Silver Surfer.”
Another source shared that “Anya Taylor-Joy was recently rumored to play the female Silver Surfer” which hints at the idea that “MCU’s version could be a mashup of Norrin Radd and Frankie Raye.”
There are scarce details about the plot of the reboot, though production is reportedly scheduled to commence this summer. Anya Taylor-Joy’s rumored casting as the Silver Surfer drew mixed reactions from the public. Gender-swapping is often an issue in superhero films, but fans should know that there is really a female Silver Surfer in the pages of Marvel Comics.
Meanwhile, Matt Shakman is tasked to helm the upcoming The Fantastic Four movie, and he could not be any more excited to give his own creative touch to the beloved Marvel lore. He told The Playlist:
“I’m thrilled that people are as passionate about these characters as I am. The fact that there is so much debate, I love it. I have been thinking about who should play these characters before I had the job to direct the movie, and I understand why everybody would be thinking in the same way. Chemistry is super important… It’s Marvel’s first family. I have to get it right. I have to get that chemistry right.”
Indeed, he should find the most fitting actor for the role of the Silver Surfer as well as the villainous Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. The latter is the First Family’s foremost antagonist, but there is also a word that he might not play the main adversary in the reboot.
Pedro Pascal Teases The Fantastic Four Settings
Pedro Pascal is now the most in-demand star in Hollywood. His casting as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four marks the actor’s official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an Instagram post, he shared a cryptic message about his joining the franchise. He wrote: “From our family to yours #TheFantasticFour, in theaters July 25, 2025 #AllYouNeedIsLove”
If the last hashtag sounds familiar, it’s because it is a 1967 single from The Beatles. While this was posted on Valentine’s Day and can be dismissed as a holiday-themed post, it could also be a hint that The Fantastic Four will be set in the 1960s.
