Matt Damon is a man of fierce talent. He has done movies of incredible value that leave an audience thinking for quite a while. The films he does have helped his reputation grow as a respectable and genius actor. Out of all the people who have caught his eye, it is Brad Pitt who took his breath away.
Naturally, he has seen many movies and television shows. In those he has observed different actors and actresses and the way they work. To analyze and be mesmerized, two different works of art play a part together and intersect the line of good acting and legendary understanding. In this, Pitt managed to do the unthinkable.
Matt Damon was Enchanted by Brad Pitt
Matt Damon talked about his experience of watching a Brad Pitt film with Ben Affleck in an interview with GQ. He came to know that while the two of them were watching the film, things had taken a turn that they did not expect. Damon and Affleck agreed upon one thing. Brad Pitt was too attractive.
“I remember Ben and I having a realization early on. Like, we were watching Brad [Pitt] in a movie, and one of us turned to the other and said, ‘I haven’t heard a thing that guy said in five minutes. I’m just looking at him.'”
They both saw that while they were watching the movie, they could neither hear him nor understand a word he was saying. The reason for the same was not because he did a bad job in the movie but because his face was far too mesmerizing to concentrate on anything else. Although it was a compliment, Damon also came to a sudden realization of just how limiting beauty can be.
Pretty Hurts
Artists put a lot of effort into their work. Whether it is a director, actor, writer, or singer; each individual gives their all for their art. The Picture of Dorian Gray comments on how an artist leaves parts of themselves with every piece of their artwork. So, for Brad Pitt to be disregarded like so made even Matt Damon realize just how limiting such beauty can be.
“We realized there’s a good and a bad [that comes with that]. It’ll mask one of your lesser performances, but it also detracts from your best performances. Because Brad has been legitimately brilliant in some of the things he’s done, and he doesn’t get the credit as an actor that I think he deserves. I never had to carry that water.”
Speaking with GQ, he added about how Pitt puts so much effort into his work, giving his very best for each role he plays. He is not just a man with looks but also one with great talent. However, to have it disregarded in such a manner felt wrong. In the wise words of Michaelangelo, ”A beautiful thing never gives so much pain as does failing to hear and see it.”
