Matthew Perry, the FRIENDS star and the voice behind Benny in Fallout: New Vegas sadly passed away on Saturday at the of 54. The popular actor was renowned for his role as Chandler Bing in the famous sitcom. However, that’s not all he was known for as the sitcom gave him the fame he deserved as one of his most iconic roles came in Bethesda’s Fallout: Las Vegas as the voice of Benny.

Matthew Perry had many stints in the film industry, he also soon graced the gaming world and immortalized himself in the hearts and minds of the community. As it turns out, Matthew Perry was an avid gamer and would spend hours playing games. He was so hooked on Fallout 3 once that he had to visit a “hand doctor.”
Bethesda’s Fallout 3 wasn’t the success the company had hoped for and was criticized for being unable to be at par with the previous title, however, the game got itself a hardcore fan in Perry. Fallout games are very popular and have a massive community and although Fallout 3 didn’t do so well, Perry remained a loyal fan. The actor went on to an episode of the popular Ellen DeGeneres show and talked about his love for the game.
The actor said that Fallout 3‘s post-apocalyptic set-up impressed him so much that he became an instant fan and loved “running around and killing things.“ Perry also gifted a signed copy of the game along with an Xbox 360 despite having no links to the game. His love for the franchise was soon acknowledged by Bethesda who decided to make the actor a part of the franchise and he was cast as the iconic voice of Benny in Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout: New Vegas is considered one of the best Bethesda titles as well in the Fallout series. The players coined the game as the best of both worlds. They praised the game’s design, its impressive storyline, and the iconic role of Matthew Perry as Benny, immersing players in an exciting gaming experience.
Benny is the head of the Chairmen of New Vegas in 2281 and serves as the secondary antagonist of Fallout: New Vegas. Benny is portrayed as a well-dressed, power-hungry villain who shoots the protagonist at the beginning of the game and sets how the events in the story proceed. The character was praised by players who loved him for his ambitions and the voice of Perry immortalized the character.
Matthew Perry’s role as Benny is considered one of the best in his career and he would have surely loved the reception New Vegas got from fans. The game allowed players to interact with Benny in different ways and Perry’s line delivery coupled with 1950s slang was the highlight of his role. Perry’s delivery even made the poor dialogue seem better and they made a lot of sense for the character.

His wacky take on the murderous robber was fantastic and his voice was the main reason why many picked up the game. There are many notable quotes in the game such as “Truth is, the game was rigged from the start,” “Anyhow, baby, you didn’t come here for vengeance. You came to get clued in,” and “Baby, getting outplayed and getting cheated ain’t the same thing” among others.
Fans have loved Matthew Perry in Fallout: New Vegas and most in the gaming community know him by his iconic role as Benny. Fans have paid tribute to the star after his demise on social media and shared how they great he was in the game, admiring his perfection in every dialogue, and that added there was nobody better for the role of Benny than Perry.
