Donald Glover has never shied away from eyeing the biggest of the roles in Hollywood. After the premiere of Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, not many expected to see another iteration of the story without Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie attached to it due to the pair’s glamorous appearances and incredible chemistry.
However, Glover took on the challenge to not just portray John Smith but also serve as one of the creators of the television series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Long before this, he also went to great lengths to bag the role of Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s live-action project. However, the actor believes he’s not the right fit for such a role anymore.
Why Donald Glover Is Not Going to Play Spider-Man in Live-Action Miles Morales Film
When Marc Webb was searching for Tobey Maguire’s successor to sling webs in his live-action Spider-Man project, The Amazing Spider-Man, Donald Glover and his fans launched an online campaign to get him an audition to portray Peter Parker.
As we all know, eventually, Webb went with Andrew Garfield.
Glover, however, still managed to enter the universe of Marvel superheroes by playing Miles Morales’ uncle Aaron Davis in Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Homecoming. He was also involved in the animated superhero film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
It’s thought that Sony Pictures plans to develop a Miles Morales live-action film. However, don’t expect the Community star to assume the role of Web-Head in such a project.
During Vanity Fair‘s Lie Detector Test, the 40-year-old admitted:
“There’s definitely going to be like a Miles Morales live-action eventually, and I think they’re probably more concerned with me being Prowler in that or something like that. I’m too old to be Spider-Man now.”
In May of 2023, producer Amy Pascal teased Spider-Man fans by saying a Spider-Woman and live-action Miles Morales movies are in the works.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith Star Donald Glover Working on a New Live-Action Lando Movie
Having wrapped Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which premiered on Prime Video on February 2, Glover is now focused on developing a film focused on Lando Calrissian, a trickster and smuggler in a galaxy far, far away.
He first played the smooth-talking character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, a space Western film following Han Solo.
Apart from reprising the role, he’s also in charge of writing its story alongside his brother, Stephen Glover. Before the brothers stepped in, Dear White People creator Justin Simien was developing the project as a television show.
