Featured Video

The new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer has fans of the long-running fighting game franchise incredibly excited. It shows off multiple returning characters, but one specific fighter got the Fighting Game Community’s (or FGC for short) attention like no other. This fighter was missing from Mortal Kombat 11’s huge roster, but now he’s coming back in full swing.

The trailer, titled ‘Banished’, was shown off at the EVO 2023 Finals. The event ended up being a fighting game fan’s paradise, as not only were there intense battles, but there were also heaps of announcements for games like Tekken 8, and of course, Mortal Kombat 1.

Fan-favourite character Reptile will be making his comeback to the Mortal Kombat franchise. As previously mentioned, he wasn’t present in Mortal Kombat 11 or any of its subsequent DLCs. He was the first character shown off in the trailer, which got the crowd at EVO 2023 really hyped.

He’s also been given a makeover, one that fans think may be the best redesign so far. He’s also able to change between his human and beast forms, which has made both sides of the fan base happy. His new fatality is pretty awesome; it shows him quite literally eating his opponent.

Who Else Was Shown in the Trailer?

Mortal Kombat 1 - Official Banished Trailer

Alongside Reptile came three more character announcements, all wrapped up into one awesome trailer. The first of which was a character first appearing in Mortal Kombat: Deception, the angelic Ashrah, who uses her gorgeous wings to absolutely annihilate her foes.

Next up is the awesome Havik, who was shown in the trailer fighting Ashrah with returning character Sareena as a Kameo character. Kameo characters aren’t playable but can be used to provide support in the battle. They are strictly partners only, but they look cool and fun to use nonetheless.

Right before the trailer ended, we got official confirmation that the Kombat Pack, which will include popular characters such as Homelander from The Boys, Omni-Man from Invincible and Peacemaker from DC, will be included in the Premium Edition of the game. For those on the fence about buying the Premium Edition, this may just tip you over.

What’s great about the Kombat Pack is that the original actors/voice actors will be reprising their roles. I, for one, cannot wait to see Homelander and Omni-Man’s fatalities. There has truly never been a better time to be a Mortal Kombat fan.
